Posted: Tue Dec 09, 2008 12:46 pm Post subject: Definitive x20 Voice Stutter Cure Needed |
|
|
If this is covered elsewhere please ignore. I know someone suggested a seperate sticky thread with a clear guide and links to what is required to replace the voice on the x20 devices to cure the stutter...also using a different Navcore then 8.3 as well. I have read most of the big thread below that deals with this and its difficult to get "your" head around.
For me I have the V7 Kate voices already downloaded and will do the backup of TT, delete of Loquendo files...copy across the V7 Kate files to the same area on the TT.
It seems that deals with the majority of problems with this but I was struggling with the "use a different Navcore" bit. There is a post on page 25 which I guess sums it up ?
"Hi, ok this worked for me. No stuttering for the last 2 weeks ( Go520). Download the 8.2 navcore posted on this thread by AlandEi page 10 mon 17th nov check out link 'this thread' to download navcore 8.2
Then check out AndyVaughan post on this thread page 7 sun nov 16th download download the kate voice from link 'Kate TTS7 Full Loquendo Folder'
Remember to make a back up before doing any changes.
Install the 8.2 navcore, delete the Loquendo Folder and replace it with the kate one above.
Not sure what plus services this disables. You can find that out from other threads. This works great for me. Hope this helps." _________________ TomTom 720

Why not just await the fix? Any fix you try and apply now may make the official solution fail.
TT are aware of this issue and a fix will be forthcoming. _________________ Darren Griffin |

As far as I can tell, there is no "Definitive Cure" as yet. Several people have come up with ideas, as you have obviously already noted. I used one of them a month ago and thought it had cured my problem. But it didn't, it only improved it. Improved from almost all the time to only three or four times since (but I haven't been doing so much hard driving for the past two or three weeks, so maybe it hasn't had so much chance to go bad). But NOT cured, so like Darren says, maybe best wait for TT to bring one out. Reading between the lines (and I have NO knowledge at all), it looks as though TT have promised Darren a fix - Not TT's usual style, I must say, so I'm feeling rather hopeful this time! I for one will promptly revert to my "pre-fix-cobble" backup before downloading the official fix. The only concern is how long it will take TT to bring it forward. _________________ Dennis

Hi Topgazza
I’m like you, bamboozled by all the advice that has been given on the subject regarding the new map and the new Navcore.
All together I have found four different topics covering the subject (5 with yours) and they contain 456 posts. Einstein would struggle.
Luckily for me I am not affected by the faults described but will download the fix when Tomtom (bless their cotton socks) release one. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Thats interesting Trevor....I'll give it a go with 8.3 and 8.15 and see what happens. I remeber our little threads on TT 5/6 a while back. I still have TT6 on my Nokia E61 and it works a treat.
Good points and If I do the upgrades to Nav 8.3 and 8.15 maps, so I get the LMG used up then restore the initial backup I made ...of course.... I can just load whatever Navcore , 8.31 or patch (?), that TT release and put the 8.15 map back on again from my hard drive when thats sorted. I could wait but I'm not sure with this LMG how much time I have if its not using the voucher system and I don't think a new map will be out anytime soon anyway. _________________ TomTom 720

Gazza,
Just do the upgrade and get the 815 map as you say.
There is no real need to then go to an older copy, its not that bad that you need to do this.
The stuttering is removed with the v710 Kate and the refresh rate is still usable.
Plus you may not have any problems, as some report no issues.
The up to date map outweigh's any issue's that we are having at the moment.
And as stated TT are on the case so hopefully a full fix is round the corner. _________________ Go 720 v8.351 GPS v1.20 Boot 5.5120

Yes...and I had to scrape ice off my windscreen tonight as well.
I'm stroking my Tom Tom as we speak and praying it all goes well..... _________________ TomTom 720

The latest version of Loquendo v7.1 more or less seems to fix the stuttering voices. The map update is still a bit slow but is certainly useable.
I few of us are using a Navcore which is really for the X40 series with some success. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for the average user though.
In summary if you need to ask questions; stick with the official software. If you don't mind the possibility of "bricking" your TomTom and know what you are doing you might want to risk the x40 software.
"bricking" = Converting a highly usefull GPS into something only suitable for holding a door open. |
