Having trialed tt7 on a pda and being retired with not now covering a great milage, today had chance to put ttn7 thru its paces and impressed over V6,75 despite having the same failings on the maps, it seem more intuitive on route calculation and lane guidance aswell as having more functions, Why the hell TomTom diidnt issue it has an an uprade i will never know because the copy i have autoloads on insertion of the SD card so the hard work must have already been done, incedently dont come back at me abpout piracy etc, if TomTom wont bother other poeple will fill the gap and it is a gap because i use the PDA for other things other than Satnav and plus the the fact I would have happily paid for an upgrade.
If we acn get the maps upgraded I would be more tha happy with TTN7, TomTom really missed the Boat with this one and shot its self in the foot. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8

Not at all, they missed the foot by a considerable margin and put a hole in the boat.......
Go figure the logic, more and more phones have been shipped with GPS built in to the handsets in the last 12 to 18 months and they have no product. They will probably launch something that might run on the iFone next rather than concentrating on the wider audience.
TTN7 isn't available in the UK pre-loaded to any device, this is a real shame for those who want to use the PDA / PDA based phone or even Smart Phone.
Being forced down a route of O2 Germany for a HTC product just to get an application isn't a very clever move. After this was announced I said the ROM would be hacked and released across the internet, which it was within a few days along with maps and everything else.
The PNA range is no better in terms of defeating piracy so the argument of not supporting the PDA platform due to piracy simply doesn't stand up to anything like close scrutiny.
Give the users the option to purchase the application and use up to date maps on their chosen platform - Even use the city map option to provide a free local area map to prove the application works on the consumers device prior to them purchasing a full coverage map, lets face it - if the PDA can run a city map it could run Europe, given the option to purchase I am sure people would welcome the move - Mike

As someone who is teetering on the edge of looking at TTN7 for my HTC Advantage, I have some very small doubts. Ever since Navcore 5, TT have been slimming down the product to be able to insert more well-intentioned, but hopelessly implemented bells and whistles.
I'm not sure if I really want TTN7!!! Is it worth it, or is it just "Latest Boys Toys"?? _________________ Dennis

In my view a most definite YES it is worth it,It has more usefull functions in the majority of categories, including avoid moterways,Map corrections(Ok Limited), in my view it does add more instead of removing as V6 did, and you can even add a spoken exceeding speed limit warning, as i said before the only let down is the maps lacking updating.
In my simplistic view the hard work must have been done so simply loading onto a SD card and sell at TomToms usual high prices must have been oppurtunity well and truly missed, despite the piracy side, although setting at a reasonable price would limit a lot of piracy. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8

I had an Orange SPV M3100, which successfully ran TomTom Nav 6, with an external GPS RX and a subscription to traffic and cameras. Then one day the camera and traffic subs didn't work. TomTom denied for months that is was anything they did, then recently said that the SPV 3100 wasn't officially compatible but had worked until they changed their server. I recently bought (at great cost) an HTC Touch Pro so that I could run my Nav 6 without an external GPS RX and also because it would auto orientate if I had it in landscape mode. Guess what? internal GPS Rx works fine with google maps but not with Nav 6. HTC helped me with a fix that makes Nav 6 work, but only with my external GPS RX, oh and by the way, it does not auto orientate for Nav 6 and you cannot manually alter the screen orientation. So I have now paid over £500 for another device to do what I did on my SPV M3100, only now stuck in portrait mode and the cameras and traffic do not work on the Touch Pro either. Apparently of the HTC TyTN, TyTN ll and the TyTn lll (aka Touch Pro) only the TyTn ll (yep the one I don't have) is compatible. ARE TomTom bringing out Nav 7? and will it accept traffic and camera subscriptions if used on a Touch Pro?

Nav 7 is available preinstalled to certain devices release by O2 Germany, whether we will see this as a wider release for other devices isn't known.
To go from Portrait to Landscape simply go to Start/ Settings select the system tab followed by the icon for screen - select the orientation you want then start the Navigator 6 application.
The screen rotate function was removed from the TomTom software some time ago, you have to use the device screen settings to switch prior to launching the application (this will also be the case on your SPVM3100) - Mike

i've already replaced my tomtom with ocn8. it's map is newer and more accurate and has txt to speech. tomtom flipped the bird at their dedicated customers. when they lose a whole block of loyal customers they have no one to blame but themselves.

Hello scouseboy061
I too ran TTN6 on an SPV3100 with Traffic and an old version of the PGPSW Speed Camera Database until just a few weeks ago when I bought a Touch HD. TT Home mucked up transferring my TTN6 licence to my new device ID and TT C/S flatly refused to transfer my TTN6 license to my new phone because it's "not supported" so though I paid for everything I've lost everything I paid for. Anyhow since then I've been running TTN7 on my Touch HD using a local demo map and it's been fine - no problems at all, but it too wouldn't flip to landscape mode. This I have learned is due to HTC's TouchFlow 3D interface so now I've installed GSen and all is well.
Anyhow, as TT have screwed me with my TTN6, purchased European map and traffic subscription I've decided that they can keep their vindictive and "guilty until proven innocent" attitude towards their legit customers and instead of buying a TTN7 European Map, this weekend spent I £105 on Copilot 7 + EU map ...that is money they've lost PURELY through their attitude and with my wife wanting a SatNav for Christmas there goes another sale they won't be getting.

OnCourse only covers CONUS/CONCAN, unfortunately, and leaves the ROW to sort itself out.

Goodbye and good riddance, TomTom!
Couldn't agree more. Frankly, once I've moved out of London, I'll be replacing my copy of tomtom6 on my PDA, and replacing it, probably with CoPilot, a competing product, but I'll be CAREFULLY researching the market before I purchase any Satnav product, to ensure that the company I chose to provide my hard-earned money to it likely to provide ongoing and consistently upgraded product support and maps.
In my not so humble opinion, the board of TT really screwed the pooch.
A glossary of terms is listed below, and while somewhat tongue in cheek, shows my opinion of the board of TomTom.
Glossary: CONUS - Continental United States
CONCAN - Continental Canada
ocn8 - OnCourse Navigator version 8, a software SatNav solution for PDAs.
PDA - Personal Data Assistant, often referred to as a PPC, or Pocket Personal Computer. Often supplied as a stand-alone device, some double as a cellular telephone, with recent trends adding integral Satellite navigation receivers.
PND - Personal Navigation Device; A hardware navigation solution that utilises a proprietary firmware system and the global satellite navigation system to provide real-time navigation options.
ROW - Rest Of the World
Satnav - Satellite Navigation, most used as a noun to describe an electronic device whose purpose is to provide real-time navigation options.
tomtom - a satellite navigation software and hardware provider headed up by probably THE most arrogant bunch of Corporate Directors that exist on Earth, who haven't clocked onto the fact that while they might prefer using a penguin-based operating system on their PNDs, their previously loyal customer base uses primarily windows-based PDAs. Thus they could well be described as an arrogant bunch of fools who aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the box. _________________ Roger, G1LIW

Haven't a clue, and since it's not been officially released - and is likely as not never going to be either - by the muppits at TomTom, there's no legitimate way of finding out.
I'd go and buy CoPilot, to be brutally honest. At least you'll have a legitimate copy of software, and it'll have the backing of the software manufacturer, who's currently unlikely to metaphorically excrete all over you like the executives of TomTom have. _________________ Roger, G1LIW

Strange, its on their web site with support for later iPAQs.

Not an option. I bought version 5.2 some time ago and have a number of POIs etc. I was just willing to buy an upgrade as some of 5.2's facilities are pretty old now.

POI files can be translated easily into other formats for use on other packages so don't let that stop you considering the other PDA based navigation platforms.
Currently the latest TomTom software for the PDA platform is version 6 with its two year old maps which are a waste of time in comparison to other applications. The version 7 software and latest maps are only officially supported on some specific PDA based mobile phones sold by O2 in Germany. Whether this will change is not known, although support for the older PDA devices won't continue is my guess - Mike

Please see Mike's post above.
Also, allow me to re-phrase what I said: TT7 has not been, and is unlikely to be, released for general sale as a stand-alone product, instead of a pre-packaged locked in product with a PDA.
As Mike said, it's been supplied by O2 in Germany on a certain models of (locked in) phone only. Copies that have surfaced on illegal download sites have been hacked from those phones, and I wouldn't trust them to be stable at all. Certainly, they're not legal copies.
What you say you are seeing on TTs website is unlikely to be what you think it is, IMHO. Certainly I couldn't see any trace of it when I looked at the PDA navigation page just now, which is STILL showing the v6 package that I'm currently using.
It is well worth noting that whenever TT has released something in the past, it's been with the usual gamut of fanfares and PR shots. No such cacophony has been heard in respect of a PDA stand-alone retail version of TT7 - or later, come to that.
In addition, while I'm banging on about TT ignoring it's original (i.e. PDA) customer base, ISTR that the current PND version is what, v8?
Says it all, really, doesn't it.
(...And some folks wonder why I collectively slag off TTs executives...)
Oh, and on POIs. Unless they're VERY specialised, I'd hazard a guess that Mike's spot on again, and in addition, since POI files tend to be regularly updated, your argument again fails to hold water: There are bound to be replacement versions of those POI files somewhere out there that are more up-to-date, unless, as I mentioned, they're highly specialised in nature.
In any case, you can always convert the ones you already have to say, text format, then re-format them for another package. Tyre, for example, helps you do that, by the way. Remarkable package for freeware
Hope the above clarifies my position for you, and aids you in some small degree.
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year _________________ Roger, G1LIW

Either application will convert to/ from the TomTom ov2 POI format to numerous other formats, these also very well suited to bulk POI file conversions - Mike
