Help with Quo maps, which map as they look simular !

Hi all,

I have downloaded the free Quo maps and now about t opay and get on the OS maps

They seem very reasonably priced but there are 2 qhich look very simular and I don't know what the difference, they are:

Is the difference that the first is Quo pro maps and the later is Quo Go maps as it says here

With Quo Go you can view the OS maps and plot limited routes etc, with the Quo Pro you can also view the maps but the restrictions you get with the Quo Go are lifted allowing full use of the product. The comparison in you last link details the difference. Once you have the Quo Pro any future purchases can just be the basic mapping as you will have the application.

I use the Map Tiles to purchase maps from Quo which is built in to the application, you do have to purchase a minimum of 6 tiles but for limited area coverage this works out a far cheaper solution than purchasing huge areas when you might only want/ need smaller sections - Mike

Cheers for the reply Mike, I saw the map tiles.

I see that tiles are available in explorer or landranger format but I'm unsure what the main difference is between the 2 as i'm looking to get them to follow the footpaths, routes, national trails etc on foot and both do this. Ideally I want to send the maps to my Summit HC but I think I don't have enough memory but I may upgrade to a HCx and sell the HC on.

Is the explorer maps better or the landranger as the link I posted above is landranger ?

The explorer map tiles are twice the price of the landranger tiles.

Sorry to ask so many questions and look dumb but I don't want to part with maybe £40 and get it wrong !

The more costly map tiles are at a scale of 1:25,000 which offers far greater levels of detail, they are considerably more expensive as they only cover about a quarter of the same area for double the price per tile, to get the same area in 25K as a single 50K scale tile will actually cost nearly eight times as much!
Quo do a Brecon Beacons map pack for £46 which is using the 25K scale maps, I often go out walking using 50K maps, but where possible I prefer to use the 25K scale as it offers better definition.

All you can do with the Garmin devices is send a pre planned route to your GPS it will not contain any mapping data, if you want to use Quo on a mobile device then you would need a PDA/ PDA based phone. - Mike

I bought the Quo Pro OS 50k landranger for wales today, took a while to download but its all done now! looks good, gonna have a play tomorrow with it!

As I downloaded it, if my PC went t*ts up and dies then how would I fare with reinstalling it, they sent me a email with a link on so do I just follow the link again ?

I have the Anquet OS 50k for the national parks so I didn't buy the Quo one.

For holidays I either go to Hereford or Norfolk so I'll just buy and add the tiles at a later date

I saw the Garmin Discoverer and it looks the bee's knee's, I think i'll stick with what I have got for now til I'm more competant with it and then look at that later on, as long as I can get £100 ono for the Summit HC in a couple of months time I might then get the HCx for the topo / discoverer maps

You could always copy your downloaded maps to removable media such as CD or DVD, you can find the maps in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Mapyx\Quo v2\maps

And

C:\Program Files\Mapyx\Quo v2\data
