Darren and myself headed off to the MotorShow Live 2004 at the Birmingham NEC, it's the last two days of the show and we wanted to attend, meet with ALK and also see what was on offer.

The weather didn't stop us, despite the weather forecasts as sunny for the day, even though the nice sunny weather on the outward journey decided to come over cloudy and overcast with the odd sprinkle here and there. Nor did the blow out we experienced on the motorway stop us! (Sorry no photo's of us changing the wheel!)

We bravely soldiered on and actually arrived at the NEC ahead of our anticipated schedule.

It sounds as though you had a great day out Thumbs Up

Looking at your pictures I see that Garmin have changed the button layout on the GMSMAP 76, they are now above the screen. On the GPSMAP 60 they were below the screen. Have you used the GPSMAP 60 whilst walking? I find the layout on my eTrex Legend to be very good for left hand use. It has buttons on the side and the "click-stick" on the front just above the screen.

Some time ago you posted information on a more sensitive GPS chip. Has it been incorporated into any GPS handhelds yet?

Ooops, have I wandered off-topic Question Perhaps this should be moved to the Garmin forum Wink or should be in ... Rolling Eyes

Actually it's the other way around, the buttons have always been on top for the GPSMAP76 range.

Personally I prefer the buttons on the bottom, it makes it easier to use and you aren't obscuring the screen with your hand.

I've played around with a GPSMAP60C and it really is a nice GPS. Not exactly cheap though, but it's bursting with features and can offer all that a Street Pilot can offer including street navigation except for voice guidance which isn't enabled for the GPSMAP60C. I love it, and would love one, but as the C is over £300, it's a little steep in m opinion.

SiRF III is officially released, but I haven't heard of any manufacturers using it in a production GPS yet. There are tweaks to XTrac, unofficially being dubbed XTrac II, the Fortuna Clip-On and SysOn-Chip CF card currently are shipping with the new firmware. Still waiting to see who's going to be the first to ship SiRF III chipsets.
