Hi,

Since i bought my 910 around x years ago, I've never updated it.

It's working fine and has the pocketgpsworld cams and poi's.

I'm doing a backup of it now using TT Home and also will be doing a copy via Windows Explorer.

I would like the new 8.15 new map and guessing i'll need to update the software to v7.xxxx as I'm running version v6.xxxx.

what will the update do and is it worth doing just for the newer map.

Please make sure you do perform a Windows Explorer back up, TomTom Home backups with the 910 had a nasty habit of re-naming all the files and folders in the LoquendoTTS folder leaving you without any Text To Speech on the device.
You will notice some changes to the way the RDS-TMC works (if you use it) and the map will contain newer road layouts, not much else of any note as I recall - Mike

Yes it is, and I didn't realise there was an update yesterday when I connected my 910 to TT Home and it installed it.

Nothing but problems with it. Caused no end of problems with map displays etc, and would not run for more than a couple of minutes and then re-boot, and you would have to re-enter your route again.

Luckily I had a Windows Explorer backup of 7.165 and all is working as before. Thanks to all who keep telling us TT users to do a Windows Exploere backup.

Don't bother updating past V6. Any further and you will encounter problems. Wait till TomTom release a further update to 7.900 before updating. You won't be able to use the RDS-TMC feature fully if you update above V6.

I've had an ongoing issue with TomTom regarding the 910 and RDS-TMC to the tune that TomTom are providing a new 920T FOC.

If by some other method you update you 910, it will run 8.010 and early version 8 maps. But that's another dark alley Shocked

i ended up upgrading to the latest v7 and all seems to be fine. Don't know how people are upgrading to version 8 as it's does give me the update.

I don't use RDS-TMC and never have done so.

I did do a backup using explorer but i forgot to show all hidden files and then copy it. :-(

Shouldn't matter... As supplied, there are NO hidden files or folders on a TomTom.
