|
|
About 30 mins or so into a walk today, the A10 stopped updating the current position (ie the blue dot). The unit hadn't frozen as it was still responding to button presses, changes in screen etc....but it just wasn't updating to the current position - even after entering planning mode and then trying to return to current position on GPS screen. Had to restart it before it updated to the correct position. First time this has happened to me and I have been using V1.2 for a couple of weeks now.
EDIT: Oops - sorry Mods - I wanted to add this to the V1.20 forum, not start a new topic.... |

Did you notice what the GPS Status screen said. Sunds very similar to what I described as a freeze in the 1.200 forum.
Mine showed the same symptoms, then froze once I got to the GPS Status screen. |

No, I didn't - I will make a note to look next time. All i know is that everything else seemd still to be functioning....unlike other freezes/crashes I have experience where the unit becomes totally inresponsive.
I kept switching between planning and GPS map mode, but it refused to update the current position to the correct position.
I very much doubt it was lack of GPS signal as I was in the middle of a very large flat field with nothing between the A10 and clear sky in all directions! |

I had this happen to me today - very disappointing, especially as the v1.200 seems to be an improvement otherwise. Anyone else out there experiencing this? |

Is there a particular route one should use to report this to Satmap - or just by email? I am happy to notify them. |

Last week, when I tried to talk them through some quite fundemental bugs in the co-ord entry screen##, the person I spoke to, did not seem seem too bothered, and asked me to email to info@satmap.com. It was lunchtime and the phone may not have been answered by by the correct department.
I take the view that if we don't report issues, they they won't get fixed. After all, if we find them, they have already got through Satmap's own (exhaustive?) testing and the beta testing. It would be nice to think that one of Satmap's tech support team monitored and contributed to this forum. If they do, they have yet to identify themselves.
##I have not reported these here as they are obvious bugs in the program, and not abe to be sorted out amongst ourselves. |

I have the exact problem, description below
I have had an issue now a number of times whereby the Active 10 stops tracking my current position.
On the GPS screen it shows orange bars and a green satellite image to confirm you have a lock.
However when you move the blue position dot stays fixed to it's last position. The only way to rectify the problem is to power down and up again. After lock is gained again a trail of red dots is shown from the stuck position to the new current position and a correct blue dot is shown.
This has caused me a number of navigation issues, as nothing seems to be wrong at first, until you realise you are not moving on the map.
I had wondered whether this was hardware or software, but I suppose this thread has answered my question. This is a V1.20 issue! Role on V1.21. Let's hope Satmap take a look at the wish list also. |

Satmap advised me to reinstall version 1.2 and reset all defaults. They did not seem to sure why they were recommending this but I did it and so far it seems to have worked. Before I did this I had started to get lock ups on almost every walk. _________________ LostMike

My Satmap froze with blue position dot not updating (still responds to key presses though) today. I'm using version 1.2 firmware with full GB map South section. Never had any problems before using 1:50k Central region and 1:25k Peak District map cards. Perhaps the problem relates to the map size? |

I'm not sure it is map size. I had problems with a 1:25000 map of the Brecon Beacons and separately with a half UK 1:50000 map. The problems also occurred with none and many routes on the A10.
However since doing the reinstall I'm pleased to say that I haven't had any lock ups. _________________ LostMike

I use Satmap on my mountain bike, I have only had the unit since Monday, I have done about 50 miles of off road routes this week with out the trail snail, however I remembered to switch it on today and it froze on me, I checked the card for free space and there was plenty, I am using Wales 1:50000 mapping, I had to turn it off and on to sort the stationary blue dot problem. apart from this glitch I am very happy with the Satmap. |

I have had exactly the same thing on a Garmin 60CS more than once so it is not unique to the SatMap.
With regard to reporting things to SatMap,I think we should report every problem we come across, there is no guarantee that SatMap read this forum and their own isn't up and running yet so if things aren't reported they can hardly be rectified.
