Well, I have to say that their In Stock Guarantee is rather interesting:
Quote: | At the Carphone Warehouse, we believe in being totally honest with our customers. That means that when you see an item with the "In stock" badge against it, we guarantee that this item is in stock. |
So I ordered a copy and then got this email:
Quote: | Thank you for ordering with www.carphonewarehouse.com.
Unfortunately, the item you ordered is temporarily out of stock. We do make every effort to ensure that only items that are in stock appear on the website, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. |
I phoned them to see what was happening and they said they've never come across this before - ie website saying it's in stock but not having any stock at the online warehouse or the phone-orders warehouse! Apparently they get deliveries on a Monday and a Friday...
So much for their guarantee! Still, the order is still in place and nothing's been canceled - see if anything arrives now...

I ordered yesterday evening and got an email today saying it would be dispatched shortly, should be handy because as far as i can see it comes with traffic updates for free which is nice. _________________ Samsung Mega

The new look is a massive improvement but not sure why they still have that dreadful obsession with having to select the country before entering postcode/city, also what is it with that stone age keypad? I thought the days of having to switch pages between numbers and letters was over.
Maybe those two seem petty but really do spoil a decent product. |

Yes, GARMIN won't charge you for access to the info but your GPRS network provider may well have other ideas
I have XT on my N okia 6110 - paid a little more than this though
It's quite nice but display is a bit small. Very good for speed camera warning or backup nav system though.
I assume this deal does not include V2009 UK/Europe mapping? _________________ Phil |

Just looked at the Q&A's on Garmin website and it says you can't update maps!!
In order to update the mapping, a new Garmin Mobile XT card that has the latest version of mapping on it would have to be purchased as there is no way to update the mapping that is currently on the card. The Garmin Mobile XT card can be purchased on the Garmin website here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/view-cart.do.

My software arrived today, pretty good except the latest version i can get to work on my Nokia e51 is v4.2 not the all singing v5.0 unfortunately!!
My phone is a symbian S60 3rd generation but that version of the XT software won't work, only the 2nd generation will work for some reason. _________________ Samsung Mega

you could always try your local carphone warehouse shop and see if any nearby stores have any left?

Hi,
I was lucky enough to get one a few weeks ago, to try on my Nokia N95 as a possible replacement for the funny Nokia software and my old Navman icn520.
It arrived as the 2007 version, but was easily updated to XT2008 v 5.00.00, downloading the Speed Camera Database was just as easy. (The N95 runs symbian S60 3rd generation, so it might be worth trying again to upload the 2008 software)
I'm well impressed with the navigation, the instructions are like rally notes, they give you the next command, and then give it again.
Yes, typing in the Country is a bit tedious - but you only need to type 'ENG'
for it to recognize. But then my Navman had a useless postcode search AND the dodgy onscreen keyboard!

I was in Canterbury yesterday and parked near a CPW, so I went in to enquire. They didn't have any, but the guy searched and found that they have none for online sale, but there are copies around the country in different stores. Nearest shop stock to Canterbury was Folkestone, no use to me, but he found that the Bath store have them and several towns too. He even emailed Bath to see if they'd check if they could reserve me one, but he never phoned me back. So I mentioned it on the phone to a friend, and he computerised it all and texted me the phone numbers for both Bath shops. I rang and they now have one put aside for me until Sunday. _________________ Dennis
