Absolutely, I'm not denigrating your personal choices at all.

What's wrong with them?

They're just very disappointing. Nothing really new, 3D buildings is about is. SmartST is as dated as ever etc etc.

We'd been hoping Mio might invest in the platform rather more heavily than this which is a makeover on an already very dated platform

The rush to get the S-series to market in 2007 meant it was half-finished in many respects - particularly the ergonomics, which, as Darren said in a later post, led to a very "bolted on" impression. Thus retail prices soon went into freefall, slashing profits and therefore depriving NavMan of funds to invest in newer platform technology for later models. (A situation that has striking parallels to dear old MG/Rover... and we all know what happened to that!).

Why hasn't Mio sought to prop up NavMan? After all, it's no good prevaricating about the bush in a hyper-competitive market like this. Very often it's not until *after* a takeover has occurred that the new owners uncover the true financial state of their acquisition. Or they realise that the "working culture" is utterly incompatible. So perhaps rather than support NavMan, Mio are actually now planning to asset strip it?

Dave
