I drove to the outskirts of London the other day and saw a sign saying Low Emission Zone This lettering was enclosed in a green circle and accompanied by a sign for a camera. A little bit further down the road, I saw a gantry with what appeared to be four small cameras mounted on it. The warning sign advised leaving the motorway at the next junction.
What's all this about?
Should I leave the motorway or not?? I hadn't a clue. Everyone else stayed on the motorway, so I did too.
How does this work? I assume the camera is for ANPR. Are cars over a certain age banned from the "Clean Zone"? Are you only allowed to proceed if you use LPG?
Am I going to get a NIP through the post?
Does anyone know how this works please? _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Google Low Emission Zone. If you were in a car it doesn't affect you. _________________ Dennis

You should be OK if you were in the car, click Here for more information about the vehicles affected by this which is yet another tax on motorists in this country IMO - Mike |

Thank you both for the quick pointers. I must be like an ostrich, I never heard anything about this until I saw the sign the other day!
I think that you are right Mike, it will not affect car drivers (yet), but this is going to cause price increases for anything which is transported in or out of the city by road transport.
Clever move by Gordon & Co., "Tax the hauliers, but not the public", unfortunately, the public are going to pick up the bill in the long run. _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

This only affects older lorries and coaches at the moment, newer lorries have a small tank of 'Adblue' which I think injects into the exhaust reducing emissions so they do not get charged. People who drive camper vans over a certain age apparently will be included in a couple of years.

it depends on the chassis manufacturer in the main they have for SGR ie adblue though some do offer EGR (non adblue). _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

It doesn't affect any older lorry which can have a specific exhast modification on it, but all lorries must pass a certain level on the emissions test. This is only a temporary situation though as this is only faze one. Next year it gets tougher as vans and busses get included and the emissions bar gets raised.
Failure to obey gets a massive DAILY charge. _________________ Dom
