|
|
hi guys,
Just a query regarding speed cameras that have been removed on the submitting page (big red cross and greyed out) they seem to be still on the latest update for instance, camera id TEMP:40090@40.
Should it still be visible on the map? and if so for how long because it has obviously been taken away so in my view should not be there.
cheers |

There was no TEMP file in the last release of the database. You're still looking at an old copy of that file. |

Generally speaking, if a category contains no cameras, an empty folder is included so that users can simply overwrite their existing data.
However, as of 8 Oct 2008, the TEMP cameras were changed:
Quote: | Version 6.102 - 08 OCT 08
This release sees 152 static and mobile speed cameras added/modified across the various speed camera databases by 81 users. Please keep submitting all sightings of mobile speed cameras so we can keep our database up to date with active sites. Apparently-inactive sites are regularly removed from the database.
This release also sees a major change in the way that Temporary Cameras are handled. Previously all temporary Gatsos, Monitrons and Truvelos were placed in the Temp file which was not speed zoned, whereas temporary SPECS were always in the SPECS file and speed zoned - but with no way to differentiate between temporary and permanent installations. As of todays release, all temporary cameras are prefixed with a "t" (tSPECS, tGATSO etc) and contained in the same files as the permanent installations. This also means that the Temp file is now disused so there is 1 less file to download / set up (although the file may still be downloaded for certain release formats until the next release!) |
and it's mentioned in this thread.
Having said all that, I've just discovered that I too still have TEMP:40090 showing _________________ Andy

all the relevent software changes have been made now so next release (later today) will include a note to remove any temp file from your device as these will not be downloaded via ANY package

The temp cameras are now included in the main gatso files (with a "T" at the front of the names.
There are two reasons for the change:
1. As there was only one "temp" category, there was no way on most satnav brands to know what the speed limit was for them.
Putting them into the speed-zoned main categories means you now get the correct speed alert.
2. The only cameras that tended to be categorised as "Temp" were the Gatsos on wheels. SPECS cameras in roadworks (although temporary) were already being put into the relevant speed-zoned SPECS files.
So the idea of the "Temp" category had really become an anachronism.
Now ALL temporary cameras are categorised by speed, you can delete the old temp file if you still have it. |

Did that happen, mate? I can't see a mention of it in the announcement of the new release in the Dedicated Subscriber forum section. |

But what about if you don't have the speed zoned download.
I always just download the file which is just for gatso, specs, etc
So what will the difference mean in that download now if you don't have them speed zoned anyway.? |

All that's happened is the Temp cameras are moved to their relevant category and the TEMP files as it stands doesn't exists any more. So all TEMP GATSOs are now in the GATSO file as tGATSO, all TEMP SPECS are in the SPECS file as tSPECS etc etc
As you are downloading the Consolidated database, like me, you won't get a new TEMP file and icon with each download.
If you have any TEMP files and icons just delete them.

Can you explain what you mean here? |

Or maybe, like me, you updated before the extra note appeared on the front page? _________________ Paul |

No, we don't believe that !!
You were beaten to it by the eager downloaders who were sitting to download the new release the very second it became available _________________ Andy

That's so true! I only saw the front page announcement on the morning of the day after I downloaded and installed the update.
Can't believe it was forgotten, it must have been left in the ether in my Broadband connection. _________________ Ric - TomTom 520 DEAD - Passed to the great traffic jam in the sky. Now using Maps & Waze on Samsung Galaxy S4 + CamerAlert of course! |
