|

Last evening, I updated my TomTom 920T with the latest download of cameras, ready for a trip away to Scotland. The download went as always, without a hitch.
I always carry out a demo route I know that should bring up camera locations. This time, I did this and I found that there were at least six camera locations (mobile) missing from the download. I carried out another demo route with yet another set of camera warnings and there appeared to be some mobile sites listed but not all.
I know there has been a consolidation of some warnings and I hope I catered for that, but I cannot bring up the missing warnings (joint speed and ANPR camera sites locally).
Further, and I can't explain this the TomTom camera warnings were activated. I don't and never have paid TomTom for this service. This means that not only am I getting the speed warnings up but I also get the TomTom camera sites showing at the same locations, which brings confusion. I can only assume that somewhere in this download, those warnings have been activated, although I did nothing different than I have always done.
At the moment I cannot confirm that I have a correctly working set of warnings. I wonder if others have noticed this or is it pilot error on my part? |

We don't have ANPR sites of any form in our database? Have you checked they are all correctly set-up for audio alerts? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hello Darren,
The site in question that I referred to is a joint ANPR and Speed site for mobile cameras. I am aware you only deal with speed cameras.
As an example, from where I live on the Waterside, if you go to A35 at Totton, there should be a mobile site there (joint ANPR and speed site). If you go to A35/A326 overbridge, there are two sites at this location one for reading the speeds on A326 and one for the A35 (70mph and 50mph respectively). All of these were on previous downloads and are sites I know are regularly used and I check my downloads against these known sites, to ensure I have got everything right. They are all "missing" from this latest download. I accept I could have made an error in downloading, but I carried out another download this morning with the same results.
I have cancelled the TomTom speed camera locations. I don't know how they were setup as I don't and never have taken part in their system. I also appear to have "active" camera readouts for certain countries in Europe. Again I have not asked TomTom for these. I did a download via TomTom home yesterday. There were various items, including an RDS supplier download, but I saw nothing that would start these camera warnings. I am not complaining if I get it for free, so to speak, but it was confusing with the normally very accurate pocketGPS warnings.

the mobile sites may have been removed from teh database if they have not been re-reported in teh last 6 months as being in use?

These sites are in use very regularly. I had more than a passing professional interest in these and other sites until recently. I use the sites for checking my downloads have taken correctly (demo routes). In the instances I gave the sites are no longer visible, but were visible in the last download I obtained which I used to update my wife's machine (about two weeks ago now).
It's just odd that they have "disappeared". As I am going to Scotland shortly, I wonder whether any that were listed have also "disappeared". I merely put this matter to the forum in case:
1. I have done something wrong and the information isn't being shown or
2. There is an error in the download.

It's release day so you'll appreciate we're all rather busy. Can you give me a camera ID# or an exact location and I'll have a look, road names aren't a big help unfortunately. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Do you report them as "seen again" when you see them? If they are not reported as "Seen Again" for a while then they are removed from the database. If you do see them on a regular basis i would submit a "Seen Again" report once per month but as long as you had seen them that month. |

No I don't provide the "seen again" information. Perhaps I should start doing so more regularly, at the risk of information overload.
As for the exact locations/I.D. numbers of cameras, I can't obtain that information unless you can tell me where the information is listed. That said I will be only too pleased to pass the information to you.

To ensure our database is not over-run by old mobile locations that are no longer 'current' we know employ a purge system where mobile cameras that have not been reported as 'seen again' for a set period of time are removed.
We ask that you report all mobiles seen in operation to ensure they are flagged as current, we welcome the information and you won't overload us I promise _________________ Darren Griffin |

Does your wife's device still have the two-week-old cameras on it?
If so you could get the camera IDs from that. _________________ Anita

This release sees 71 static and mobile speed cameras added/modified across the various speed camera databases by 34 users.
Out of interest, is it possible for pocketgpsworld to publish just names of the camera locations that have been updated each week? Obviously you would have to be a paid member to view the changes etc. |

Yes thought of that MaFt but it is hard to know exactly which files have been updated when you just include 71 static and mobile speed cameras added/modified
OK thanks for the reply don't want to give you guys any extra work!
I just thought it would be interesting to know which static cameras i.e. Gatso's have changed/removed etc.
There are two Gatso's adjacent to each other on the A127 near to where I live. They both have orange "not in use" covers and they have been removed from your database! (now that is what I call up-to-date). Presumably as soon as the covers come off your database would be updated soon afterwards. |
