As a word of warning then, if they are unable to get HD working in the UK it maybe worth holding fire if people are considering buying the new x40 units.
If I'm not mistaken the new x40 units will be using the same technology just an internal GSM receiver and data sources as the HD traffic receiver. If they cannot get HD working then there's no chance that the x40 will work. |

None of the moderators here have even hinted that HD traffic would not be available in the UK, AFAIK. The question was whether it would be offered to existing/older TomTom models. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr. |

Fair point, but lets not forget the RDS TMC V1 receiver that was never tested before its release in the UK. I still have an outstanding issue open with TomTom relating to this device. |

What issue was this?? and is it no nearer resolving??
The initial RDS-TMC was never a very good device for signal reception. - Mike |

Exactly that, V1 was unable to receive any TMC information in the UK and resulted in users performing DIY fixes, then after 12months+ TomTom finally admitted there was a problem. We then had to wait for the V2 which improved the receiption problems but bugs in the software meant that the front screen failed to show all incidents and required the driver to start clicking icons whilst driving to get traffic updates. There are still bugs with this and if I'm not mistaken we now have a V3 USB TMC receiver.
So in summary it's taken TomTom nearly two years to fix a product that should have been tested. This isn't the first product that TomTom have released that hasn't been tested properly in the UK, there were problems with the x30 units.
Hopefully the HD traffic receiver will be released in the UK, I've been struggling to understand why it has taken so long when it was announced back in February. Yes this is partly to do with the GSM operators but if they are about to release the x40 these problems have now been resolved. I suspect the delay is more to do with the product changing I guessing that when it's released it will be able to provide more than jut HD traffic but also the x40 Live functionallity. |

Actually there were three different receivers issued that had the "Bubble" design before the USB version appeared - you can see them all on This Page.
The Navcore 7 software didn't help matters as far as the RDS-TMC use in the UK, since the introduction of the newer version 8 software the RDS-TMC reception and supply of information is improved, but I personally don't like the missing station name or absent frequency information. - Mike |

For what? I'd 'imagine' an end of Oct launch for the x40 was likely. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I trust that's aimed at Amazon and not this forum. _________________ Anita

Gutted. I've read a few places as having them availible 31st Oct which would reinforce your suspision Darren, and I have a trip down south leaving 31st Oct.
Does anyone know if Amazon will ship it to a different address other than the registered address of the card holder being used to pay? (i.e my hotel) I know some retailers are not happy doing this due to card fraud etc. _________________ Graeme Bennett

I have purchased stuff on Amazon and it has been delivered to a different country, let alone a different address in this country. Whether they will deliver to a hotel,? I reckon they would. What if you got in touch with them now and state what you are intending doing and see if they have any issues with it. The only thing is if it isn't released on the 31st and you have to go back to the hotel and get it
Cheers
Carl
Edit:- Just looked at my amazon account and I have sent stuff to 4 different addresses, and like I said one of them was in the USA, so I would imagine that you should have no problem
Edit 2 :- Spelling mistake |
