The best deal I've seen today on a Go720 is £140.99 Inc VAT from TotalPDA.
But I've seen conflicting reports on here as to whether you get the Latest Map Guarantee with these refurbished models.
Can anyone say for definite either way? |

There is clearly a lot of confusion here and refurb can mean many things. I'll ask TT for their comment but I suspect it depends on what kind of refurb and from who, i.e. official factory refurb or dealer. _________________ Darren Griffin |

These particular ones are "Manufacturer Refurbished"
Quote: | Manufacturer Refurbished
Full one year manufacturer warranty!
Items that are classed as “Manufacturer Refurbished” are products which have been refurbished, or “remanufactured” by their original manufacturer. Despite being sold at much lower price, these products can be considered to be “as new” as they have been thoroughly checked and tested by the manufacturer to ensure that they are of the same quality as a new item.
Manufacturer Refurbished products may include units that have never been used, and while they may be despatched in plain packaging, these products are backed by the manufacturer’s full warranty, unless otherwise stated. This makes these devices great value for money without compromising on quality. |

In which case I'd suggest a prospective purchaser has every right to expect the LMG is present? The wording would certainly lead me to think it came with it were I buying! _________________ Darren Griffin |

That's what I thought, but I've just had a reply from TotalPDA saying:
Quote: | Thank you for your email.
The Refurbished Go720 has maps that are around 6 months old.
They do not come with the updated maps.
|
Which doesn't actually answer the question....
I've asked them again, but if you can get anything from TomTom themselves I'd be very grateful. |

Indeed not, I've asked TomTom for the DS answer. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I've done some research over the last few weeks for a TomTom Go 720 and my choice ended up being a £140 Refurb, or a £170 new.
As the Latest Map Guarantee seemed to depend on whether the device had ever been "conected to the internet at any point previously" I plumped for the "New" option, which arrived yesterday, and I'm rather pleased!
At only £30 difference in price, LMG and the cheaper map subscription service, going for refurbished looked like a no-brainer. _________________ A Happy user of...

TomTom have replied.
Refurbished units from TomTom come with a map voucher that replaces the LMG.
Retailer selling refurbished units that do not come directly from TomTom may not have a voucher included.
Since this the TotalPDA offer claims it is manufacturer refurbished it should come with a map update voucher. Because refurbished units have generally been activated previously LMG is not normally included in these units. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren.
So what I think this means... this map voucher does basically the same thing, i.e. it gives you one free map update if yours is older than the current release?
But I wonder if it would be restricted to a v7 map rather then the v8 which would be available if you have already updated the OS to Navcore 8. |

Hi all,
Literally just recieved a refurbished 720 today (from total PDA)
It came with a LMG voucher in it but so far haven't needed it.
i synched the unit up to Home and let it upgrade the OS to the latest version reconnected it again and it's now d'ling the latest (8.10) map.
NOTE Don't accept the first map it offers you - this will be a V 7.5 map - upgrade the OS first (mine updated itself three times before it reached the 8.01 OS or whatever it's on now).
Since TotalPDA (to their credit) told me it wouldn't be eligible for the LMG I'm well chuffed - was ready to accept that I'd be on V7 (same as is currently on my PDA) but now I should get to play with IQ routes and ALG (or whatever other TLA's tomtom add) .
Hope this helps, |

Excellent, so now (or very soon) you will have a 720 that is functionally identical to the 730 for a lot less moolah _________________ Darren Griffin |

720 now fully upgraded - on demo routes ALG and IQ are working - will try it out in earnest tomorrow.
Somethingi noticed whilst trawling through the TomTom site - LMG no longer requires a voucher - this tallies with my experience that even though I had one it didn't ask me for any verification - theoretically I would think anyone synching for the first time should get the chance to d'l the new maps (assuming the ID no. of the tomtom unit isn't already registered).

DinAlt... THANK YOU!
I tried emailing TotalPDA again and got an even less helpful (although very nicely worded) reply. |
