I was signed in to Windows Live Messenger when I left my pc last night, but when I returned to it this morning I was signed out, and I'm getting Error 81000306 when I try to sign in.
I've followed the Troubleshooting Guide to no avail.
I'd be most grateful for any suggestions. _________________ Anita

Have you tried re-booting the PC? - Mike |

Thanks for the suggestion, Alix, but I'm not using a wireless router or BT hub. _________________ Anita

Searched for the Error 81000306. May be something on there. Before you start ripping hair, the problem is not always at the user end.
All else fails, try a system restore to yesterday. |

Thanks, Mullet. I'd already tried everything I could find for error 81000306.
Just done a restore and still couldn't sign in, but am now getting the message "Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error code: 81000314" so maybe it's not my end!
Have to go out now, so will see what happens when I get back. _________________ Anita

MSN is working fine, your status has been "away" since I first checked the PC around 06:50 this morning, sending a message gets pinged back with an error stating unable to deliver - Mike |

One solution is to re-register 3 of the main DDL files
1. Close MSN completely. If it is still in the Notification tray at the bottom right of the screen right click and click Exit. make sure the icon has gone.
2. Start Menu, Run...
3. Type
regsvr32 Softpub.dll (enter)
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll (enter)
regsvr32 Initpki.dll (enter) - this one may take a minute to complete
After each one you should get a message like
---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in Softpub.dll succeeded.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Then try signing in again.
- Option 2
Re-download MSN and reinstall..... |

Thanks to everyone for their help. I'm now signed in OK.
Paul, thanks for your suggestions, both of which I tried without success, then signed in successfully about 30 minutes later.
Maybe it was a server problem. _________________ Anita

It's Microsoft, you didn't expect an error message that would actually help did you _________________ Darren Griffin |
