I've got a TT series 30. The update map service seems like a good idea. So I ordered a years subscription to this service for approx £19.
They seem to only accept credit cards. But thats my problem and I am sure many other people will have the same problem. I do not own a credit card and do not want to either.
So I have now way now or in the future to update my maps.
So maybe a great service but only if you can pay for it. _________________ Tom Tom One Series 30 with TMC

Hi LesP2008
Oh! Dear, you are annoyed. I was going to suggest that you get someone in your family to use their credit card but I get the impression that’s a no no.
However, I’m afraid that’s how it is in this modern day and age. A plastic card is nearly essential, whether we like it or not. Example…My daughter went to book into a French hotel and although she had plenty of cash in her bag they refused to let her have a room because she did not have a credit card. I had to pay with my card over the phone. Its annoying but that’s how it goes. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Trevor, my problem with this is the fact that every update prior to this i have used my debit card to pay . After further mails to TomTom and cs saying that this is just not possible and never was i asked the rep to check my past orders. He did and was very apologetic as he said "you quite clearly have used your debit card for all your purchases.
If they move the goalposts is it really too much too expect some sort of announcement so we all know where we stand.
I wonder just how many people are in the same boat as those who do not have access to a credit card and now supposedly no updates either.
I was lucky i got my problem solved and have my updated map and quartly update package i hope others are able to get theirs. |

It accepted my Barclays Connect card which is a Visa Debit card and not a credit card fine.

Credit cards are almost an essential item nowadays, especially as a lot of places have stopped accepting cheques in the UK. saying that, I know of a few people who don't have a credit card and that's their choice.
Whilst I have debit cards, I never use them for payments as they haven't got the guarantees and laws that protect the card holder, that credit cards have.
I use a credit card that gives cash back, i.e. one that at the end of a set period (normally a year) credits your credit card account with a small percentage of the total of your purchases within that set period.
For information on the best credit card for you have a look at Martin Lewis' excellent Money Saving Expert website!

You could always try one of the pre paid credit cards that they advertise.

Oh come on... that's pretty normal practice on forums. The world's not going to end because of a few asterisks is it?

1st post resurrecting old threads is everywhere these days.
