I e-mailed TomTom about this and this is the reply I got
"We apologize for not yet having responded to your email dated 05.10.2008 17:22.
We will get back to you as soon as possible and apologize for the delay in answering your query."

At this stage with AMAZON having a onsale date at the end of October the units are already bing packaged and sent to central warehouses ?

It is currently only available in the Netherlands and has been for some time, so I believe HD will be soon available in the UK, possibly within a couple weeks"

"a couple of weeks time" would put us around October 31st - the date Amazon release the X40 series

I fear they are talking out of their behinds if they are referring to the HD Traffic Receiver accessory. Lets just say that a certain french website was closer to the truth albeit not entirely correct in that regard.
As for x40 HD Traffic, I would imagine that news around that time might be expected.

Well I'm hoping the x40 live with HD traffic will be available very soon indeed looking to buy one for a special birthday gift the end of the month would be as late as I can stretch to waiting. If anybody at TomTom is listening please hurry along the launch. |

Means absolutely nothing, this is common practice to get traffic, it does not mean the device will ever be released here. This is just speculative advertising, common practice nowadays.
