Hi all,

Does anyone know the exact settings you need to use to get onto Orange GPRS Internet?

I'm using an IPAQ 4150 WM2003, and a Nokia 8910i. It sort of works but takes an age to get any updates, if at all.

I also have a Voda sim that I've been using in the 8910i and that works fine?

Thanks
Clem

I have heard that Orange are having trouble this weekend with their internet network - so this might be a problem.

The settings you need (I am on Orange using a 6600)

Dial up number is *99#
On your PDA you need to :-

Add the following string to the extra dial-string commands:
+CGDCONT =1,"IP","Orangeinternet"

Should be ok then. I am having no problem at the moment

If you're going to set up Context ID 1 (which is all Nokia phones support, but some phones support multiple GPRS contexts) explicitly using a +CGDCONT command, it's best to dial that context explicitly using *99***1#

Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure it should be "orangeinternet" without capitalisation - though I can't remember whether or not APN names are case specific.

Orange pre-pay is "payginternet"

Phone number is *99#

Extra dial-string modem command is

+CDGCONT=1,"IP","orangeinternet","",0,0

The above is for Orange Contract not PAYG I believe.

Thanks for all the replies.

I actually had those settings in and while I seem to be able to browse the web from my PDA, TT just sticks on 'Retrieving traffic information...' before timing out or eventually pulling some updates down.

I guess it could be a problem with the orange backend?

What does the "",0,0 after the APN signify?

There should be no need for any additional dial strings, just input *99# as the dial no. The Orange APN is 'orangeinternet', depending on your handset this may need to be explicitly entered.

I can access Orange's GPRS service on my 2210 via a 6310i and E200 usin the above config.

Anything that has ,<something>,0,0 at the end is, in essence, requesting no compression. I would just leave that out, personally.

I take Darren's point - but it doesn't work on all phones, especially for those who are changing SIMs use different networks. On many phones, you can configure the GPRS Access Point used when you dial *99# on the menus as he says. Personally, I'd rather set up the context explicitly to be sure - but in the end, if settings work, use them.

I managed to get this working on a sim free 6310i following the instructions on Oranges website. It contains step by step instructions on how to setup the pda and the phone. if using a 6310i it needs to have s/w version 5.5 or later to work properly.
