|
|
Hi,
Does anyone know what's happening with the Windscreen mounts for the GO 910 series TomTom's ?
There are obviously problems with them breaking, we have two that have failed here by the suction cup becomming detatched from the main bracket. TomTom support are replacing those (thanks guys) but we were looking to purchase some additional ones as spares for the units we have as pool PND's.
Having looked on various web sites, no one seems to have any in stock.
Does anyone have an aftermarket windscreen mount they could recommend for the GO910 instead ??
Cheers

Short of using the parts Andy linked to above or getting TomTom to replace them when they fail there isn't really a viable alternate, non of the well known after market mount suppliers ever manufactured anything for the x10 range due to the mount using an unusual connector and it contained some additional electronics - Mike |

Guys,
Thanks for the pointers. I've had a quick look at the site, seems most of the items are "unboxed" whatever that means, they still offer a 12 month gurantee. We'll probably buy from there as everywhere else seems to be out of stock or show the original mount as "Discontinued" for some reason.
I'm wondering if TomTom have done anything to change the design of the mount since ours were purchased in June 2007.

The newer devices x20 and x30 range use a simple but effective holder with no electrical connections, so you have to plug all the cables in to the device when you put it in the car - it works but isn't as good as a fully wired active mount. As for it holding the device and staying attached to the windscreen they are big improvement.
The recently announced x40 range do have an active (wired) mount, but these are not in the shop as yet - Mike |

Sorry Mike, I actually meant have they changed the design of the GO910 mount as far as strengthening the internal suction cup to prevent it breaking off from the base.
Thanks for the info in any case though. _________________ "A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible"
