pocketgpsworld.comTomTom have just announced a partnership with Renault with a view to offering a fully integrated navigation system.

The partnership aims to bring an affordable integrated navigation solution using TomTom technology and TeleAtlas maps to Renault customers on a range of models with the first application expected early 2009.

Integrated systems have traditionally suffered as a result of the long lead and development times for cars with products that are far behind the cutting edge. It is to be hoped that this move will lead to better solutions with up to dat features appearing, support for custom POIs and all the other community drive solutions that PND and PNA systems benefit from.

A price of €500 is claimed, considerable cheaper than the current in-car systems cost and further news will be available early next year.

This seems a natural alliance. Tom Tom is recognised in these forums as having dreadful customer support. And guess which car maker consistently comes low in the various car polls for the same reason (amongst others)?

A marriage made in heaven or hell?

While looking at new cars over the last few years I have always considered an inbuilt satnav. But as these have always been around £2000 I have steered clear of them.

If this catches on what Renault are doing, other manufacturers will follow and I am all in favour of that. At a price of €500 that is almost cheap enough to swing a deal with the salesman.

Well done to Renault & Tom Tom. Laughing

Well the three Renaults that we've owned, including the current Grand Scenic, have been fine. My Dad had at least four of them, too, and loved them.
