Posted: Sat Mar 29, 2008 8:18 pm Post subject: Third Party Add-On Applications |
|
|
EDIT: This topic has become a kind of record of how good things were in the old days!
Some time ago TomTom made the decision to stop supporting third-party add-ons and also stopped distributing the tools to help make them.
Therefore as time goes on and new versions of the TomTom software are produced, fewer and fewer of these useful utilities still work on traditional "NAV2" TomToms, and of course NONE of them will work on the new "NAV3" models, where the user has no access to the file system.
If you find any that still DO work, please make a note at the end of the topic. Thanks!
I thought I'd start a list of third-party add-ons for the TomTom range
Add any more you know of and I'll add them to this first post.
Navigation tools:
Tripmaster
provides Tripmaster-like functions and GPS tracking capabilities
(Tripmaster v2.5 from Le Web Bazar is working with app 8.350)
SpeedControl
a cut-down version of Tripmaster. Navcore 7 only.
Offroad Navigator
allows you to follow an itinerary without maps.
v3 download for Navcore 7,8 and 9.
http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/offroad.php?lang=uk
Works on Navcore 8 and 9 if you also install this "hook"
http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/hook.php?lang=uk
NMEA Logger
allows you to record, as they are received by the Tomtom, the NMEA frames or decode the frames during reception. Navcore 7 only.
all from: http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/plugins.php?lang=uk
TT Tracklog
A track logger which is independent and uses minimal resources. The tracks are outputted as NMEA log, gpx files and .itn route files.
http://opentom.org/TTTracklog
TT_Maps
enables the use of raster maps (e.g. topographic maps) on your TomTom. The software is still under development, but is already usable.
http://jrepetto.free.fr/ttmaps/en/index.html
Itinerary Tools:
Tyre
"Trace your Route everywhere" Allows you to create a route in both Google Maps and Google Earth and create a TomTom compatible itinerary file.
Integrates with v8 and 9 software so files can be sent directly to the TomTom device Tyre can also be launched from TT Home.
For v10 and above software, you can still use Tyre, but you have to use MyTomTom to upload the files to the device.
Free (ad supported) and paid-for versions available:
http://www.tyretotravel.com/download-tyre/
The Houghi Script
Simple copy and paste on a website allows you to create a route in Google Maps and create a TomTom compatible itinerary file.
Code also available for use on your own website.
http://houghi.org/tomtom/
ReverseItn
allows you to reverse an itinerary you planned on your Tomtom
SkipWaypoint
allow to skip next waypoint in an itinerary, in one tap on screen
ShowWaypoint
displays periodically the next non-visited waypoint in an itinerary
all from: http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/plugins.php?lang=uk
Event Logger
Logging of events to itinerary files, automatic change of day/night colors, etc. Also includes an Altimeter.
http://web.tiscali.it/macri/Event_Logger/
(Works ok in the background with v8.350 - no display)
Log_Pos
A simple tool which logs an itinerary to ITN and TXT files, while also flashing the city name with the altitude!
http://www.pilsit.net/TT_SW_logpos.html
(Works with v8.350)
FireTom
Enables tracking of your location over the internet, which can then be viewed in several applications including Google Maps!
According to the website, it works with any model with connection to the internet, except the x40 models and the One 3rd edition (so probably excludes the new range One and XL too).
http://www.tomtomfireeagle.com/clients
Other Utilities:
Suntime
provides an automatic change of day/night colors depending of GPS position and time
TT Explorer
allows you to browse your Tomtom disk and modify files
both from: http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/plugins.php?lang=uk
POI Capture
speed camera reporting for PGPSW (v5 and v6 software only)
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/poicapture.php
Map colour scheme editor
http://www.colorschemeeditor.com/index.php?p=home&lang=EN
Height
Simple altimeter, still works in NAVCORE 8 (Not working for x00 and x10 models currently).
(Works with v8.350)

I would like to add a vote for TYRE (Trace Your Route Everywhere), available here http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php.
It installs seamlessly into TomTom Home and allows you to plan routes and itineraries with Google Maps, and upload them to your TomTom. It will also allow you to edit routes that you already have.
Cheers

I wonder how I missed that? It is even available direct from the TT Home menus now.
I'll add it (and the alternative Houghi script for Google maps too). |

Just installed Tripmaster on my brand new and updated TT730 - (Version 8010, Build 9369, HOME 2.3.1.92)
Seems to run according to how it should on the chap who built its website - seems to screw your TT on first run, but if you follow the instructions about changing a parameter from none to rider 2 it launches fine.
Scared the willys out of my on first run of the program, mind - the screen went all weird just as the wife was watching and she went a bit 'thats not supposed to happen is it' and I bricked it and thought I'd goosed me new toy.
Alas, a 'proper' following of the website instructions sorted the problem out!
Also installed the altimeter jobbie and that works a treat!! |

Yes, tripmaster working on my 720, though no keyboard (as stated on website), so not possible to change parameters.
Altimeter was working but stopped after I installed tripmaster. I still have a menu item but it does not run - fiddling required, methinks!
Looks like it may just be the One which does not support sdkRegistry files on v8 software - peculiar. _________________ Alan
