Her indoors dropped the i3 a few days back, and the battery cover doesn't fit properly anymore, because the thin plastic guides that hold it have chipped off. Using in the car is not a problem as it still works with the power lead plugged in. However, I have a RAM mount fitted behind the fly screen on my scooter, which I clip the i3 onto for journeys to places I need guidance to, and unfortunately when used on the scooter, it has to be running off batteries, as I have no way of plugging the power lead into a socket.
Can anyone tell me if any newer models from Garmin use the same mount as the i3? |

My Nuvi350 has the same size ball mount as my i3, however the actual sucker mount, although looking almost the same, is slightly longer for the Nuvi, I think this is just to position it a little further from the windscreen as the Nuvi is bigger than the i3.

Thanks I'll take a look at one of them then.
Can you tell me... Is the socket for the ball central in the back or is it nearer the top or bottom?
Would it be safe to assume that most if not all Nuvi models use the same size ball? |

Certainly my wife's 360 has a ball/socket mount, so do the 310 and 370. Can't definitely vouch for it being the same size as the i3 though. _________________ David

The ball & socket on the i3 are the same size as the nuvi 350, I made my own mount with a ball for my i3, and having upgraded I'm now using the same mount with the 350.

Many thanks everyone, I shall look into getting a Nuvi 350 or similar then. |

Just joined and found your post.
I have the StreetPilot i3 as well and although I mainly use it for my car I am thinking of fitting it to my Motorbike. How do you find it worked on a bike? I have already ordered bits from RAM to fit to handle bars but not sure best way to waterproof it. |

To be honest I do not bother to water proof it. I run it silent (you're not going to hear it anyway) with the back light off during the day. If I need it at night, I just put the back light onto setting 1.
I suppose a cellophane bag wrapped over it and held tight with an elastic band would be all that's required.
On my scooter I have a fly screen, which keeps the rain off of my i3, as long as the bike is moving. |

I'm sure we'd all like to have a Zumo, but they are WAY too expensive for me, so I'll stick with a cheapo GPS like the i3, and either put a plastic bag over it, or accept that it may succumb to water damage one day. |
