Can anyone tell me why Ireland does not seem to be part of Europe as far as TomTom are concerned?
Does anyone produce comprehensive GPS software for Ireland? Desinator has maps for Dublin, Belfast, Cork etc, but virtually nothing in between. |

SRW,
I’m afraid that it’s the fault of Tele Atlas, who provide both TomTom and Navman with the map data.
Mapopolis use Navteq map data and you can download and use their software/data for free for 9 days. You may want to give them a try.

Mapopolis is the same unfortunately. They cover the (greater) Dublin area, and the main cities plus the major interconnecting roads but little else. According to Mapopolis there are no roads west of Galway city for example!
Navteq are apparently busy with a remapping exercise for Ireland, but no real idea of when they'll be ready, or when the major navigation s/w manufacturere will actually use the new data, but I did read somewhere about a target date somewhere in 2005. |
