I just wrote the following for a topic on another site, but ended up thinking it needed wider discussion....
How do we let them get away with the dreadful quality of their POIs?
TomTom's POIs are still embarrassingly bad (in the UK at least). The positions are wildly inaccurate, the naming conventions are dreadful and there are many, many spelling and other mistakes.
Here is a quick overview of the situation on a TT720 with v715 maps:
Casinos - None listed for the UK
Company - Totally unhelpful names listed such as 'London Office', 'Head Office', 'Globe House'. Wouldn't the actual company name be useful?!
Concert Hall - Only 4 in UK
Cultural Centre - None in UK
Dentist - Some improvement since add-on files for UK, but typing awful, no consistent style - e.g "Hughes, john", "M underwood", "Thakkar, g" "Dental care j". Some complete howlers such as "Competitive Mortgages"!
Doctor - Same as Dentist
Embassy - None in UK
Ice Skating Rink - None in UK
Law Courts - Only 3 in UK
Leisure Centre - None in UK
Library - Only 2 in UK - one spelt wrong one via MapShare.
Marina - Only 2 in UK
Park - Only 3 in London
Pharmacy - Same as Doctors and Dentists
Rest Area - Should be called "Service Stations" in UK
Restaurant - Very poor, mainly KFC, McDonalds and Pizza Hut. Cannot search by food type.
Scenic View - None in UK
Shop - Pathetic. Blatant advert for "Partco Autoparts! Nothing else except Harrods
Sports Centre - Only 3 in UK
Swimming Pool - None in UK
Tennis Club - None in UK
Veterinarian - None in UK
Water Sports - None in UK
Winery - None in Uk
24 categories with serious failings out of a total of just over 60 categories.... that is pretty appalling!
In the past TomTom customer services have been totally dismissive when I have commented on this. They say:
1. it's nothing to do with them, blame TeleAtlas; and
2. If you don't like it, use third-party POIs (which they then remind you they "do not support"!)

Same here, I thought they were shocking. Not much in there for the UK.
I don't even trust the ones on the TT Home as I understand there may be issues as to where some of them come from.
1st thing I did was ditch them and install the ones from this site. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100.
