|

I dont suppose there is an answer to this other than to throw it in the bin, but it seems my Tmc-Rds has died.
Since its purchase earlier this year it has been next to useless. The original firmware that came on my 520 was 7.221, it worked now an then when it managed to get a signal but then I changed to 7.480 and 7.481 and we all know how successful they were....
But now I have 8.010 and apart from a couple of times my 520 will not recognise its plugged in, even after many frantic attempts at connecting and disconnecting twisting and pushing home.
The annoying thing is when it did work it seemed so much better, typical...
The other day i managed to try it with a colleagues tomtom and it did not work in that either, he was using 8.010 as well.
So my question is, is this a general problem with 8.010, or is it my particular setup (see below). Or is it time to bin and replace?

If two TomTom units running v8,010 software fail to see the device and you are sure it is fully plugged in then the RDS device must be at fault, how old is it? - If you still have the receipt for the unit contact TomTom support (0845 161 0009) and discuss a replacement under warranty for the RDS unit- Mike |

Hi Mike
It was bought from fleabay about £10 cheaper than RRP. It looked genuine (proper packaging and all), but !!!
Even if it is genuine would TT honour the warranty? and on top of that I exploited the loophole with V8 maps too. _________________ iPhone4 IOS 4.3.3

If you don't ask you will never know, and as for what version you have installed to the device, this should have no bearing on the problem as you have done nothing wrong - Mike |

I totally agree, but my dealings with tts and cs tend to be the opposite.
Time to dig out my non-existant paperwork..
Thanks for the replies Mike.
I will let you know how it goes.

You're not alone. I've had exactly the same problem since installing v 8.010. I get the little car with the moving arrow over it but no data. Then the traffic bar disappears after about 15 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't recognise that the TMC receiver is plugged in.
GO720 - genuine TomTom TMC receiver.
I'm waiting for a response from TomTom tech support. |

It seems there may be a problem with 8.010, but I dont even get the traffic bar at all, my go520 will not recognise its connected.
I just had my stock reply email from TTS. I am sure they dont read the emails we send then as I just got the same old reply everyone gets when I specifically said no matter how hard I push the connector in the Go520 will not see the receiver as connected.
They asked me to make sure it it properly pushed in...

I've had a number of quirky problems since installing v 8.010. Sometimes I have to reset it to get it to work, and it's very slow to boot up now. |

Hi Guys,
Interim update number 1.
Received email from TTS Issuing an RMA number, after filling out the required details they will send me a carton to return the unit in, then i will be contacted to arrange a pick up.
I have to say all the above is a very good way of dealing with such matters.
I have one question that some one out there who has gone through this procedure before, may be able to answer for me.
The faulty TMC-RDS receiver was purchased through Flea Bay from a dealer not a private sale. But I do not have an invoice as such just the usual: Congratulations you have won the item, then the PayPal email confirming payment.
Will this suffice for TTS to accept as proof of purchase?
TIA

I am quite impressed with TTS today.
Following the previous posts, I was sent a box to return the TMC-RDC, This arrived last Monday and was sent off on Tuesday, TTS received it on Thursday and it and been replaced and returned to me today, Saturday. And on top of that it works....
This will be the first time that I will be able to use it with Nav 8, previous versions of nav were pretty naff as reported on these forums, I know there are still a few that say its not as good as GPRS info, but apart from the initial outlay its FREE.
In my limited experience when it did work, it may not have been upto date with all traffic problems but in general the major problems tend to be faily accurate.
A couple of weekends ago I was on my way back from Glasgow (800 mile round trip in one day) and the M6 was closed between J16 to J15. And boy did I miss the TMC then. I had to faff around setting a destination near to where the closure ended and use the alternate route to avoid the M6. It all worked OK but by the time I got back to the M6 the incident was over, typical...
I hope others here find my so far good experience with TTS of use, as I think we should the report good and not just the bad experiences we have.
