|
|
Is it possible to buy a longer car charging lead for the x30 series?
I'm wanting to route my cable around the windscreen and then behind the dash but I'm about 0.5m short of making it to the dash and for obvious reasons don't want to hook up an extension cable half way up the A-pillar. (It's a big windscreen before you ask !!)
Thanks. _________________ TT GO 1005 |

For some reason, it's VERY hard to find a male to female mini-USB extension cable.
But when I mentioned it in another forum recently, someone came up with a place...
It's in the states, but it's worth a try.

Your first one looks OK Wazza, but is still in the US.
The second one is something else entirely, it's a mini A-type plug to mini B-type plug. |

A question to the OP.
How long does this cable need to be please?
More than 1,5m? 2m?
Because the longest I can find is one that'll extend to approx 1,6m (curly).
I suspect that power cables aren't made exceptionally long is for safety reasons, namely getting tangled around your feet. |

I've been thinking about this question...
And wouldn't a better solution be to get..
And one of these...
Total approx cost = £6,00 |

It may well be *if* it produces enough power.
The TomTom charger is 1.5 Amp or 2 Amp depending on model.
A lot of these Ciggy lighter to USB supplies are only 500mA or so. |

The ones I've found will supply 1000ma or 1A, so "should" be sufficient providing the cable isn't overly long. |

Be very carefull using any cigar lighter plug that is not compatable with a TomTom as the output has to be 5 volt not 12 volt as supplied from a normal cigar light plug.

True, and well worth remembering...
What are on the TomTom leads are NOT "plugs", but minature power supplies built into a plug shape.
But the ones being looked at here have USB sockets.
They will ALL be 5 Volt output, so if they can provide enough current they will be OK. |

Take care with these addaptors though as Maplins sell one with a 5,5 Volt output it was on sale for a Palm device, not too sure why I have one but it is in the spares box marked not to be used ! - Mike |

Odd... That certainly doesn't conform to the USB spec.
Quote: | The specification provides for no more than 5.25 V and no less than 4.75 V (5 V±5%) between the positive and negative bus power lines. |

Mike just asked me to add a general warning about charging "liPo" batteries incorrectly...
Here are a couple of YouTube movie clips showing just how badly things can go wrong with these batteries.

DO be careful out there if using non-TT approved chargers. Your warranty is not all you might lose.... |
