|
|
Why should processing of the Map Share corrections now take half an hour or more on my computers. This didn't happen when I first got the TomTom about 6 weeks ago. Also, if I open the task manager, TomTom HOMERuntime.exe is taking most of the CPU power (about 70 - 95%)
The excessive time seems similar on two different computers running XP Pro. The time to detect the available map share updates seems longer than it used to be but the excessinve time is to process them.
The tomtom details are as follows.
TT730T
App 8.010
Free ram 64Mb
Map 805.1801
Home v2.3.1.92
PC's running XP Pro with plenty of spare disk space. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I am running other programs (i.e. whether available ram might vary)
Any ideas about a reason and cure. I really cannot stand waiting that long and, if I can't find a cure, I will have to turn updates off.
Thanks.

hi,
there have been a few people saying they cannot get ANY map share stuff at the moment so i could only assume a problem with servers?

Hi MaFt, thanks for the reply.
I don't think it's the server as it downloads fairly quickly but then spends ages in "processing".
There are two status lines which colour green to show progress. The first for download is slower than I would expect but is OK. The second for processing is where it gets stuck and I guess that must be happening inside the TomTom, not in the PC or the server? This has been happening for a few weeks now.

Silly as this sounds.....try minimizing your Home screen for a few minutes and see if that speeds up the processing activity. Some have reported success in getting faster results in the downloading and processing phases by minimizing. _________________ David |

They are taking very much longer than they did a few months ago, it seems to coincide with the last HOME update. I don't find minimising it helps at all. On the rare occasions I accept mapshare updates I either go off and do something else, or leave it running in the background while I do something else. _________________ TT Go Essential |

Rover, have you tried the advice posted in several other topics recently?
Connect to Home, then use the "Tools" menu / Mapshare Preferences, to remove both corrections from others AND ones you've made yourself.
That often gets them started again. |

I contacted TomTom about this and, after a bit of correspondence, I got this answer.
"The time that it takes to download and PROCESS the MapShare corrections depends on the size of the map that is receiving the corrections and the amount of corrections available. The half hour plus time is normal if there are a large number of corrections."
As the amount of data to be processed is shown on the Home screen to be "Tiny", I can only assume that they have made an error in the programming as I would not expect there to be any other reason for half an hour to process a "tiny" amount of data. My smartphone runs at a faster speed than that.
They are looking into the question about Home grabbing all the cpu resources.

Suddenly today, I wizzed through the updates in no time at all. Just like it used to be. _________________ TT Go Essential |
