|
|
Took the plunge and updated my 720 to navcore 8.0.10. Then with lady luck hopefully on my side, I purchased the 8.05 maps via tomtom.com
Fired up tomtom HOME, and let it detect updates required. It finds the map I purchased, but states "This item cannot be installed on your device".
The map is not "selectable" to tick for download. Is there no other way of downloading the map from tomtom.com? I can't see any direct link.
Any help advice greatly appreciated. |

I am not an expert but read the posts on this forum regularly I thought software version 8 had bee withdrawn for TT720 devices leaving only the latest v7 this will not support v 8 maps. Just had a look on the TT site the only maps it suggests as a download for you are v 7 ones. |

Even before v8.010 was withdrawn, I seem to remember a few members saying that v8 maps would not install on non-x30 devices.
Trying to install v8 maps onto non-x30 devices was always a gamble and this thread might shed some light _________________ Andy

There are previous threads about Tomtom having closed the door on the unofficial installation of V8 maps on devices other than X30. But the posters who were caught out by it were able to get a refund by phoning TT support. _________________ TT Go Essential |

I believe I said that people should keep it quiet regarding the installation of v8 maps on x20 series units, did anyone listen?
NO and TT went & closed the loophole... |

I'm not sure exactly why TT closed the loophole this time, but v8 software was withdrawn shortly after it was first released for this very reason - then they released it again, fully aware of the v8 map loophole.
Remember also, that TT were receiving payments from people upgrading to v8 maps who probably wouldn't otherwise have updated, so it wasn't all bad for TT.
When you consider that the map data for v720 and v805 maps is the same, those people paid purely for the 'benefit' of ALG, Reality View and IQ Routing. In my view, these features are not worth the update cost:
ALG & Reality View appear at 1/2 mile, so if you're in the wrong lane it's probably too late.
IQ Routing has only two settings - weekday or weekend, so a route at 2am on a weekday may be different to that in the middle of the day at the weekend because of 'adverse' traffic conditions encountered on a weekday.
So, the v8 maps aren't all they're cracked up to be _________________ Andy
