I have NOT disabled Early Warning instructions. I presume this is why I get navigation warnings well in advance, e.g "After two miles, take the exit". I'm sure that disabling them would not be catastrophic, as the normal navigating instructions will be issued.
I HAVE disabled "Keep to motorway lane" instructions and I'm not sure what I'm missing (at places where I'd expect these, I still get "Keep Right"). But I use the visual map as much as the voice instructions (GO is mounted just a small fraction away from my eyeline when driving, so I'm never studying the map, merely slightly diverting my glance to note the directions).
Interesting question and I'll be intrigued to see what others think. _________________ Dennis

I seemed to find my 720 is much more "wordy" than my old Go300, especially if using a TTS voice.
So ages ago I opted for DISABLE EARLY WARNING INST. (AHEAD, TURN LEFT) but I left the other one on.
Recently I've found myself missing or nearly missing motorway exits though, so have just re-enabled it again! |

DISABLE EARLY WARNING INST. (AHEAD, TURN LEFT) ...... YES / NO
This controls a warning about 1.5 miles ahead of a motorway or dual carriageway junction telling you that you will have to take a junction soon. It is designed to give you a chance to move over to the correct lane in plenty of time to take the exit. It can be a bit confusing until you get used to it as there can be more than one junction between this instruction and the junction that you are supposed to take.
DISABLE "KEEP TO MOTORWAY LANE INST. ......YES / NO
The only difference I have noticed with this one is that when it is set to YES you will get a "stay in the left lane" instruction when joining a motorway or dual carriageway that you are only staying on for a couple of miles. |

Presumably these options are not available on the One XL - I have certainly never seen them. _________________ Alan

Yes DennisN I too have my 720 positioned so that I can glance at it for the directions.
I do not pay too much attention to the spoken instructions and some of Jane’s commands can be downright misleading. For instance, “In 2 hundred yards turn Left and then turn Right”. I’ve sometimes found that the turn Right can be half a mile up the road. Silly woman.
However, a quick glance at the screen shows one exactly what lays ahead. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Point taken about the distance in advance for the 'turn right' warning but I'd rather have too much lead time to get into the required lane than too little. _________________ David |
