Hi Smokey,
Com 7 doesn't sound right at all.
I have the same setup, and what I did was this..
Open TT3 and go to the GPS page with a dinky map of the world on it
1. untick the box in the top left hand corner.
2. select 'Haicom GPS' in the top pull-down menu
3. select 'CF_CARD GENERIC' in the lower pull down menu.
4. retick the box
5. Fire it up and wait about 90 secs, and sats start to appear
......well it works for me :D
Good luck mate

Confusingly, Haicom GPS is incorrect for an Evermore chipset GPS (such as your HI-303E). You should use NMEA 0183v2 4800 instead. Haicom GPS is for SiRF chipset GPSes; it sends SiRF commands to the GPS which could confuse an Evermore chipset.
CF_CARD_GENERIC is the correct port to use for a Haicom CompactFlash GPS in TomTom products.

Wow, yup that's better - Now it's seeing satellites much quicker.
