Amazon has one described as TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver (2008) at £45.92. The picture shows a rightangled miniusb connection.

The one with a straight connector which I assume is the older one is £20.99 and the one for the X10s is £24.99.

Prices for the HD Traffic are TBD AFAIK, the service isn't available in the UK as yet with no mention as to when it will roll out, I did hear 3rd quarter this year so there is still time I guess - Mike

Thanks all, I've put in a few bids on eBay for the last version. If I get one cheaply enough then fine. If not, I'll wait a bit. I don't think it's all that necessary for the kind of journey's I do in the UK and I rarel;y get any traffic delays in France.

I did use my Traffic Sub in France at high cost in July and the only times I had any warnings, it turned out that they were wrong and the work that had caused them had finished a few days earlier.

On the TomTom website it says you get 1 year subscription with the HD receiver, then it's €9.95 per month thereafter (For Holland)
So when it's released in the UK that's bound to be 6 months included and £12 per month.

I've put in several bid for these and the version that appears on Ebay is 2V00.006, now I don't know if that's the older version or the newer one and if it's the older one, does it have any significant flaws in it that any newer versions may have had fixed.

BTW do you need a subscription to get this thing to work as I've seen both you do & no you don't! Confused

The RDS-TMC receiver does not require a subscription, or a lifetime subscription is included in the purchase price - whichever way you look at it.

The HD receiver DOES require a subscription (or, more accurately, it will require a subscription when it's available in the UK), but it works using the mobile phone signal and has a built-in SIM.

The yet to be released HD receiver plugs directly into the cigarette lighter and then into the mini-USB of the device:

The later RDS-TMC receiver has a square shaped box and a mini-USB connector:

The older RDS-TMC receiver has an egg shaped box and a jack connector:

I've just spent 4 weeks in france driving - from the moment I left the eurotunnel exit to the moment I got on the ferry back at St Malo I had (with very few exceptions) a solid green connection.

On the drive down to Dover and back from Portmouth I had no more than 20-30% green (coming back from Portsmouth I had nothing until I hit the m25 - 50 miles).

So is the tmc connector that's the problem or the crappy coverage we have the the uk?

BTW I never hit a serious delay when driving (2000 miles without a q - bliss) so don't know what the data was like although it did warn of rain on sections of the autoroutes (where you have to slow from 80 to 70 mph when wet).

I selected France and then the UK for the tmc data in the selection box as appropriate.
