|
|
Is it possible for a person to add individual speed cameras to the list of speed cameras on their satnav when they come across them. Or is the only way to download a complete folder from TomTom or a site like this.
It's just that having come across a few new speed cameras in my area it would be useful if I could add them 'to the list'....
Or am I just being a bit naive...? |

Yes it is possible with the database from this site (because it uses the "standard" POI functions of your TomTom. You can add them to your own machine AND share them with other users.
No it isn't possible with TomTom's because they do things like that! You can send in reports though.
But when you say you've found "a few new cameras", whose database are you using now?
I would be VERY surprised if they are missing from the PGPSW database. Obviously people will find new ones as they are installed, but there are usually dozens of reports in the first day or two!
TomTom's database is a different matter... I have a copy of it but only fire it up occasionally to remind myself how bad it is!
You can see the already confirmed PGPSW camera positions on the submission map on this page:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras&op=SubmitCamera
If you are already subscribed for the PGPSW camera database and you DO report a new one first, you get free life subscription. (and you don't get that with TomTom's rather poor effort either!) |

I'm using the original data base that came with the TomTom One XL. I just wondered if it was at all possible to add individual cameras to this, as and when I come across new ones.
Looks like I'm being rather naive....
I appreciate that I can always subscribe to the PGPSW data base.

No, but waht you CAN do is just set up a new POI category called "My Cameras" or whatever. (Change Preferences/Manage POI/Add POI category)
Then you can add your new places to it by any of the usual means, and set up a similar warning sound in "warn when near POI".
I wrote up the various ways of adding the locations in THIS TOPIC
(but obviously don't do this while driving if it is at all unsafe to do so). |

Thanks for that, I should have done a search first...
Still at least I know you cannot change the original database.
PS
I'll get the wife to do it.
