Hi all, i,m running a Go910 at the moment which seems to be getting left behind with software updates so thinking of going for one of the Go x30 series.I have noticed that the internal flash memory ranges from 4Gb(930),2Gb(730) & 1Gb(530).I was wondering what the advantages are for having more flash memory and what the disadvantages for having less memory.

Hi
the 930 with 4gb has room for both the U.S and Europe maps
the 730 with 2gb can only fit one of the major maps
and the 530 1gb will be a reduced map, less POI's etc
Either way all can take a SD card so you can put maps on the card and
it wont matter what size the internal is. Your lucky you have the choice
in Australia and NZ we can only get up to the 720 with 512kb internal flash
due to the size of maps Aus 130mb and NZ 28mb.
hope this helps

And don't forget the x20 and x30 range can use the larger SDHC type cards, a 4GB card will work fine for anything stored on it, the 8GB and larger cards are best suited to music and pictures, as the device cannot write to the larger cards correctly so storage of maps isn't a good idea.
Also the x20/ x30 range can use the internal memory AND the storage card, be aware the latest maps for the 930 with all speech functions installed will not actually fit into the internal memory so you do need an external card - Mike |

Thank you for your replies i was not sure if if the larger memory enabled the unit to perform better than the 2Gb & 1Gb.Looks like i might get myself a G0530 and by a 4Gb sd card. Thanks again for your help.

I have no inside knowledge, but it has been strongly suggested by others on this forum that a new software release may become available for X10 units in August, so maybe its worth a wait for a a week or two. |

Mike, I took your advice and went for the Peak SDHC card 4gb. However the outlet sent me an 8GB by mistake, i have been running it with the maps etc and after a couple of months dare i say it hasn't missed a beat. I dont keep music or anything else, just the satnav stuff. A good choice in cards as it worked as it should straight off the bat. I have read the posts from people who have had problems getting the device to recognise the card etc, luckily i had no issues. |

If there's nothing else on it, you probably won't have any problem (or not for a long time). The TT can write to the first 4GB of the card OK, but if something else fills up that space then it will have problems writing to the higher memory areas. |

You will have problems if you switch to each map in turn on the device and set your Home location or any POI warmings within each map, doing this forces the device to write to the MapSettings.cfg file and any map stored in the higher address location will fail to write to the file - Mike |
