A place near me is selling off some old stock of the Streetpilot C510 at a price I can't resist.
I assume these won't come with the latest 2008 maps... is it possible to get the maps updated for free or is this going to cost me extra? |

I wouldn't be so sure that they won't have the latest maps on.
And if they don't and you are a normal consumer, buying a new product (ie not a second hand one, say, from ebay) I would have thought Garmin will let you upgrade the maps for free when you register it.
By the way, I've seen Halfords selling Garmin C550s for £99, in-store. |

There were a few software issues with the C5xx models(C550 has a hard-drive so worth avoiding), i'd strongly recommend going for the Nuvi 300/310, much more stable and so much neater. Available for £80/90 from Amazon and also Comet. Another alternative is one of the H.P. Ipaq 314 from Dabs for £105, you can then get £30 cashback from HP, so £75. Be aware that the cashback offer means you have to purchase the device by the end of the month, although HP may well extend the offer to August. _________________ Samsung Mega

Such as?
Name me a make or series of sat nav that doesn't have any software issues.

Really?
I have a C550, and I thought it used solid state storage.
The C550 for £99 is a steal. Full euro mapping, and it should either come with the latest version, or qualify for it. mp3 player on the unit. TTS. And lifetime traffic, having a GTM-21 bundled with it. |
