Well its been a while, but I need to load a new splashscreen for a mate.. now a long time ago I sussed how to do this, but now I'm stuck.
The splashscreen that have been posted up are great and just what I need, however, they are all in JPEG format How do I change these and get them to work. I change them to 'splash.bmp' and rotate 90 deg' but they remain about 13KB, whereas my old one in my root is about 220KB.... what gives? |

you need to "save as" (BMP) in the program where you did the rotation rather than just renaming the extension. _________________ Lutz

What program are you using to convert the files?
Usually the method is something like...
Open the picture, File..., Save As... change the Save As Type to BMP - Windows Bitmap, Save..... |

I save it but it stays at 13kb, but in my root the splash is about 220kb and the new image dragged and dropped does not work.
It doesn't change to 220kb, so I'm not doing something right.... |

You don't say what TomTom you have, but when you rotate the picture you want to use, you have to re-size it to 320 x 240 pixels, that should get the size right. Re-name your old splash screen to splash1, or Delete it, call the new spash screen "splash", not splash.bmp the "bmp"bit will be added automaticlly by your computer, if you call it splash, bmp, you will end up with splash, bmp, bmp if you see what I mean. You can also change the shutdown screen in the same way, it is called suspend, on newer devices, the suspend is called antitheft. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav |

I may be wrong, but I thought that if you are running recent software, you no longer have to rotate the image.
The way to check is to open the original splashscreen in whatever paint program you use (the MS Paint supplied on any Windows PC is basic but will do everything you need here). Just make your replacement image the same size and shape as the original.

Not necessarily...
But if you make sure the file name extensions are always shown by Windows, you will be able to see what is going on and there will be no confusion.
In Windows Explorer / My Computer go to the Tools menu:
TOOLS / FOLDER OPTIONS / VIEW Tab /
In the "Advanced settings" section:-
UN-TICK "Hide extensions for known file types" |
