Hi,
I've an old and venerable Quest, and have been running City Select Europe v7. This gets us round the UK and france quite well - but I fell the need for more updated mapping. I've just got Garmin to send me the update - the Non NT version of City Navigator.
I also asked the chap on the phone if the mapping would work on a colorado 300 - which I'd like to get for walking/biking etc. as well as perhaps using it for road navigation. Currently, I either use the quest standalone, or when in the motorhome I also use it through a PC, with the PC displaying navigation data via nRoute on a larger screen.
The answer was that the mapping would work, but I'd lose out on postcode search, which is a feature of the NT mapping. Is this correct - I've never had postcode search ( which many people find unbelieable when they give me one to navigate to!)
Finally, will I be able to use one copy of City navigator n two units?
regards

Yes, you just have to ask Garmin to unlock it for the new unit. That was always the way it used to work anyway - unless they've changed it... _________________ Gone fishing! |

Finally got my Colorado yesterday and spent a frustrating few hours trying to get City Navigator 2008 unlocked for it.
I called Garmin this morning only to be told that the 2008 version licensing prevents you using it on two units which is really quite annoying. It's nice to have the updated mapping for the quest - but I really wanted the new stuff on the colorado too...
I'm going to have to have the 2006 maps on the colorado - whcih I can unlock for two units - apparently - though Garmin are still working on how exactly I do it.
It's really getting frustrating the way differnet mapping products have so many different, and restrictive, licensing terms. Sometimes I think that if the licensing were less restrictive, or the mapping where cheaper, then there would be a much greater penetration of recreational gps in the market.
Having said all that, the colorado is a beautiful unit - just need lots of time now to work out how to work it! Three weeks in France starting next week with a combination of walking and cycling should help though. |
