Hi, I submitted new camera positions before having paid for a database subscription. Can I pay for a subscription and retrospectively claim the new cameras and hence get the free membership?

That would depend on when you submitted the cameras and if they would have qualified for lifetime subscription had you been a subscriber.
If these were recent and otherwise qualifying submissions then we would consider it, if they were months or years old or non-qualifying then we would not _________________ Darren Griffin |

We make this requirement very clear. At the end of the day, if it qualifies you get Lifetime Subscription anyway so the subscription fee is immaterial surely? If you don't then you still have access to the database. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Bit confused by lifetime membership/free database subscription. I notified the site of one or two mobile sites a few years ago(?). I have been reistered for years, but forgot about the site when it started to charge. If I can identify my reported sites do I qualify for subscription to the database, being a "pioneer" of the database! |

I was hoping that I might have qualified for a free subscription.
I have submitted at least 10 cameras over the last few months and heard nothing. Some of the cameras I have submitted are corrections for locations. One of the sightings was where a copper stopped me and I still haven't got a free subscription. |

Thanks for the reply but I've seen and read that post.
What I don't understand is for example, I spotted police doing a speed trap at Milford in Surrey. They were positioned on the bridge over the A3. I spotted them setting up and then reported it to pocketGPSworld 10 minutes later. I was more than likely the first person to report this and I have just checked the speed camera database and it's still not on there!
This is consequently knocking my confidence in the accuracy of the data base. |

if you mean this one:
Quote: | There was a police van with a huge satellite dish on the roof parked on the bridge over the A3 accompanied by two police cars and two police motorcyclists and one police motorcyclist one mile south parked up on the A3 behind a matrix board. |
then it was rejected as it seemed highly likely to be an ANPR operation
another example:
Quote: | I spotted Sussex Police yellow van and the policeman was setting up his generator to power his camera. |
was rejected as there was no information about the actual location.
hope that helps

According to the police officer I spoke to he told me that they were doing ANPR checks and also speed checks.

From the email you sent me.....................
Addition of: Single Direction Mobile (ID#0), Heading: 337, Lat:51.023134, Lon:-0.506213 (United Kingdom), Speed:30, I spotted Sussex Police yellow van and the policeman was setting up his generator to power his camera. Well I can see the location I sent you.
What has happened to my submission of a wrongly located camera in Fittleworth?
What has happened to the camera on the A3 heading south just before Hindhead?
I must admit it's very frustrating when I do my best and get told I'm not telling the truth. |

No-one is accusing you of lying.
I don't have access to the database like MaFt but i'll address some of your concerns.
In the first example the evidence suggested it was an ANPR operation. If you spoke to the officer and they confirmed they were doing speed checks then it would probably have been a good idea to mention that in the submission notes, but you didn't.
In the second example you have given the co-ordinates but without further information about where the unit was specifically i.e parked on the pavement, in lay by etc the submission is weak and if the co-ordinates are out it can make tracing the location and therefore performing the verification difficult.
As for the others it's possible you weren't the first.
The system is in place and is transparent. It works. However there is a certain amount of give and take. You must submit as much information about locations as possible.
It might be worth reading this thread to see how the Verification process works.
I can understand it frustrating not to get a report on all your submissions but with the numbers of submission each day it would be impossible.
When it all comes together, it'll come together. |

I reported speed cameras without being a subscriber, and did this just to keep the database up todate
I was just lucky, that the very first time I did subscribe to the site, I also reported a speed camera and got lifetime Membership. I was amazed that I was the first, as I spotted this camera getting fitted as I was going out of town and did not get back in till after midnight and then reported it. _________________ TomTom Go 700,
