|
|
Hi All
Just replaced the ol' TT700 for a 930T. Tom Tom say that they "do the speed cams differently now" and I can't get the speed cam POI's to work. A friend has told me that the cams that TT put on initially, and then encourage you to subscribe to, conflict with the PGPSW ones. I'm going to remove the lot and just install the latter to see but wondered if anyone else had this problem. I'll report back anyways |

I don't think they'll conflict in a bad way. You get duplicate alerts yes but i've never heard of it crashing a unit or anything like that.... |

that was quick!! No it doesn't crash-but the TT alerts only flash--no audio and the others just don't show in the POI catergories at all or on the screen. I have just changed the voice to a computer generated one and the only POI for speed cam has given me the option of a spoken warning (Petrol Station 800 yds????) as well as a sound so I'll try that again. But I can't show the new ones or warn when near[/u] |

No they don't conflict at all. TomTom are being a little disingenuous...
I run both side by side quite happily (but usually have the TT one turned off! ).
TomTom are right that they "do theirs differently now".
You set them up in the "TT Plus Services" menu, whereas the ones from here are still done in the "Manage POIs" menus. |

I don't think there's a serious conflict as such, but the TT cameras are sometimes found to be less up to date than the PGPSW ones.
Most people, therefore, simply remove the TT cameras and just use the PGPSW ones.
Having said that, though, you might want to leave the TT cameras in place for a while and decide for yourself _________________ Andy

Sorry, Beef99...while I was writing mine, I missed your reply.
Can you clarify which cameras database you are NOW having problems with?
See my previous post for which menus to use to do the set-up for both. |

Hi again. It was the pgpsw ones that I can't seem to find-I'm in the process of
having a look at the hard drive now. I have loaded loads of POI's(banks petrol stations etc) and they come up in the "show POI' Catergory " field on screen but when I look at the speed cams on the drive there are the .dct and .ver safety cams (which are the TT ones I think) which show on screen, but also the "normal" safety_cam .OV2 and BMP ones but they dont come up in the "Show POI' Catergory" for me to tick |

The PGPSW ones will all have obvious names like pgpsw_uk_gatso_30.ov2
On your 930T, they should be in the map folder, called Western_Europe or something similar if your map region is different
If you're having trouble finding them, why not download them again and copy them across onto your 930T?
Remember that if you've already selected custom icons etc, it's only the .ov2 files which you need to copy _________________ Andy

It could be that you have exceeded the number that the Device can handle. IIRC it is 169.
With Explorer, count the number of OV2 Files in the Map Folder. _________________ Richard

A bit of confusion then...
The TomTom-supplied ones are the .dct and .ver files AND ALSO the "safety_cam .OV2" files
The Pocket GPS World ones will all be called "PocketGPS.... .ov2"
Other things to note:
The TT-supplied ones CANNOT be shown on the map, ONLY on the driving view as you pass them.
There is a limit of how many user-POI files you can add. You say you've added lots. It is 100 on v6 software and upto 169 on v7/v8 on a Go930 (this includes the TT ones and the only way to check is to count the number of .ov2 files in the map folder with Windows Explorer or the Mac equivalent (don't try to use Home to count them). |

I'll get back asap and let you know how it goes. Next question--(thought you were off the hook eh?) assumingtthat the cams are there-what spoken alerts can I install instead of the dopey noises? the s/w vers is8.010. Thanks for your help fellas |

Brilliant--I just recorded all my own--but may pick one of the pre-recorded with a siren instead. This 930 is a bit more Hi-tech than my old 700 so I'm a bit behind with the tekanology. So thanks very much guys--I'll buy you a pint if you ever come in my local ;-)-er.. except I don't have one.
Cheers |
