Shocked What's that about, are they trying to conn you into buying a new printer?
Or is there a deeper problem?

I thought the 64-bit thing was going to be the new default for all.

Me three!

But go into any PC World or similar and ask if they've got a printer that works with 64 bit and they'll say something like "All our printers work on all computers". Take one home and you'll discover the software won't install, so you have no printer control from your PC (things like the display of ink capacity remaining and so on). Sure, it'll print using the generic printer drivers, but you can forget the fancy stuff - my HP all-in-one scanner only works now by using Control Panel, not the HP driver I had on my previous computer. My HP colour laser and HP A3 inkjet are the same, generic drivers only. I used to be able to print posters (e.g. 4 pages [quarters] of A4 photo making a big wall poster by sticking them together), but I can't do that now and the scanning options are fewer in Control Panel.

Last time I visited PC World, I said "Show me a printer which has a 64 bit driver and no matter what it costs, I'll buy it here and now" and waved my "more money than sense" wallet at them. They didn't have one.

64-bit is the new Betamax for all.

The last time I was in PC World, I was with a friend and some poor customer came up to us and said:
"Excuse me, do you mind if I ask you a few questions because you sound like you know what you're talking about"

I was once in Comet and asked about a product and the guy just read the few lines off the box as though I was incapable of reading Twisted Evil

Forget the 'sheds' such as PC World and Comets, you might pay slightly more in your local Independent High St computer shop, but you normally find a 'nerd' who knows what he/she is talking about and gives you the advice wanted.

The shed's seem to be run by staff with no experience, no interest and little knowledge, they refuse to learn as they think they know it all, and worst of all are rude and unfriendly.

Before going out and spending your hard earned money, I always look here first at PC Pro (or buy the mag) often you can get a top product for less than you might have intended to spend.

You might even find enough left for an extra holiday to Corfu! Wink

The 64-bit machine came from Independent High Street nerd who advised me it was going to be the new default for all and 64 bits is twice the speed of 32 bits - seemed logical to me.

Go back and talk to him about printers and tell him/her that you think you were let down, as you feel 'conned' that he sold you a product that wasn't necessarily suitable for you.
A decent retailer will put it right by finding the correct printer(s), to them there is still a sale there to be had, you might even get a good discount for your trouble.

Sad Sorry to hear that.

Hope others here find the challenge to get you to a full 64-bit.

These guys are skilled salesmen and were possibly selling carpets last month. They will sell products based on their targets, not your needs.
Do a little research then go to the "shed" for a hands on to narrow your options. Google the model number and beat the price hands down. Its that simple.
Nothing against sales people, I just refuse to pay a premium for self acclaimed unqualified "experts" that usually know less than the customer.

@MaFt. I used Adaware and Spybot myself and found them very capable. But both are only removal tools and so will not block (ie allow) infection until a sweep is performed and IMHO that is way too late. A good freeware blocker would be Spyware Blaster. Again, I used it myself for some time in conjunction with the two mentioned, and not much got past to be found by those.
