Oh dear... have TT now finally cottoned on like we've been saying they would and closed the loophole?
Upto now, if you bought the map on the website (not in Home), saying you had an x30 model, then Home WOULD let you download and install it as normal onto an x20 model.
From your post, I'm not sure if you have downloaded it or not, though....
At first you say you have, then you say that you can't. Is it downloading but not installing or is it not even starting the download? |

Wazza you do get worked up about this!!but we are all adults on the forum and I am sure we are all capable to make our own decisions !!you may not agree with people buying the new maps claiming that they have 30x sat navs but everyone to there own
I do agree and I myself would not do it but not because of the reason that Tomtom would not support it but because the new maps which come out in August may be a bit more up to date.
I am sure if Tomtom were that bothered they would have prevented this being able to be done a couple of weeks ago .

You made a valid point, john, and I was against this idea myself initially.
However, when you take all the facts into account, it's not all bad:
1) TomTom withdrew v8.010 Navcore for a while when they realised that v8 maps would run on the x20 range
2) TomTom re-released v8.010 for the x20 range, fully aware that v8 maps would run
3) anybody buying x30 maps is buying them at the discounted rate from TomTom, not some bootleg source
Therefore, although this may not be the 'official' route, TomTom are receiving payment for maps which users may not otherwise be updating.
At best, we get the v8 maps at a discounted rate and at worst, we'll just have to buy another copy of the maps when they're officially released for the x20 range.
The question is, who wins? Well, it's TomTom of course because they're selling maps - maybe 2 copies if the current v8 maps stop working at some point in the future.
Although people might not agree with what's happening, I really don't think it''s anything worth getting all het up about

Well said GPS_fan, I for one would not have upgraded a v7 map I can't afford to keep doing that. I took a chance and upgraded to v8 for the reason of the extra functionality. TomTom made £40 which they wouldn't have had they stayed on v7.
Lets all make peace and see what happens

I think the main point is if you use your sat nav on a daily basis yes you will benefit from updating to the new features as soon as you can but if you use the sat nav as an occasional user its not so important and can perhaps have the luxury of waiting for the new map release
To be honest I cannot see Tomtom disabling the new maps purchased for the old 20x series as they are as much at fault for allowing it to be downloaded |

| If you are in any way worried about a new map being "disabled" simply perform a full back up of a working device using Windows Explorer, should a future software "upgrade" render the combination inactive simply format the unit and re-install the known working back up from the PC - I doubt this would ever be required but it is sound practice to take a back up following a map upgrade - Mike |

I have the v8 map showing up on tomtom home but I can not active it as it says my device (720) is not compatible? Have I just blown my £39.99 trying to obtain this map early? I really wanted to take advantage of IQ and ALG.  |

I think TomTom might give you a refund if you haven't been able to download the maps.
Give them a ring in the morning on 0845 161 0009.

It certainly looks like it!
Hopefully, as it looks as if Home is refusing to download the maps and so they haven't been "opened", TomTom might give a refund.

John, I know you two have been having an onging "discussion" about this for some time, but I'm pretty sure Wazza's MAIN point was that TT would not support the "wrong" maps and may even stop them working.
That now seems to be the case, so our fears were justified.... |

Right or wrong maps..... TomTom support in my experience is next to useless anyway. PGPSW is far more informative, friendly and useful, so providing TT don't somehow make my 920T not able to use v8 maps I won't be loosing any sleep over TT withdrawal of support, should it happen, and if it does happen and it has to go back to TT under warranty I will just stick v7 back on  |
