Ah, no i don't think they are stolen in any way, they are from my dad's Go300 which he got about a year ago on ebay, they are around a year old, and are as up-to-date as i need for the time being anyway, if i find that i can get them to work then i'd be more than willing to pay for updated ones from this site, but just need to know i can get them to work first.
They did not need unzipping, they are plain .bmp/.ov2 files, they work on the Go300 and PPC, i put them in the "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland" folder, not in any sub-folder.
So i think i have done it right, just not sure why they are not showing up !

Oh, from eBay! They CAN'T be dodgy then!
(For future reference, If your dad (or you) became a subscriber to the PGPSW database then the licence terms would allow you (or him) to make a copy for your own use so long as you were both resident in the same house).
It "theoretically" could have been dodgy (as with everything), but that would be cynical of ebayers in general and they're not all like that . We bought it legitimately so i'm not really all that bothered where the database came from, just that it works. I do believe them to be legitimate, anyway that's not the issue here.
But, yes i will definitely give the subscription a bit of thought, i think this database is around a year old or so, looking at the locations of the cameras on the map. We don't have that many cameras round here, and they don't change all that often, but i might still subscribe to get other POI's to complement those that are already on there.

Anyone with any sense that was selling on eBay would remove their own legal copy of a camera database, as they are all copyright protected and traceable.
If that copy somehow ended up being distributed on file-sharing sites the original owner would at the very least be banned from the site and would lose their subscription and any further access to updates.
It's the same as any computer software (or maps on a satnav!). You don't own it, you just have a licence to use it; with certain terms attached. Buying the unit legitimately doesn't make any difference.
Ah who cares, we bought it legitimately, it works, and that's all that matters. I wouldn't suppose anyone selling it would know the legality issues surrounding speed cameras on a sat nav (which arguably should be free anyway, and i do say "argualby" because some do argue that issue). Running a little off topic here too, the issue is now resolved, they work and fearing the speedcam police were going to come knocking at my door to take my sat nav off me wouldn't put me off using it.

Seems a little strange to be so paranoid about connecting to Home, even using all the precautions advised here, but to happily install speed camera files from an unknown source to the device. _________________ Anita

Very much on topic, I would have thought, considering you were seeking advice on activating possibly illegally obtained speed cameras.

Until you can say they are "illegal", reserve judgement, don't go accusing people of using "illegal" speedcamera databases when you just do not know. For God's sake, i cannot even tell if they are so called "illegal", so how would you know !!!!!!!!!
Also, (correct me if i'm wrong), but are you actually saying that if anyone has any speed camera database for a TomTom, which was not purchased from Pocketgpsworld, then it's assumed an *"illegal"* copy ??
I think you really need to tread very carefully if you are going to accuse someone directly of such activities, especially when those accusations are totally and unequivocally unfounded (as you know, whether you admit it or not!)
These are NOT "illegal" ov2 files, they are out dated, yes. Not sure of the exact source, i admit. But that does not immediately brand them "illegal" or "dodgy" in any way whatsoever.
So don't accuse me of making use of "illegal" ov2 files which, for your information, i wouldn't do anyway, music-wise, software-wise or any other format.
Anita, i think you of all people (as moderator) should know not to insinuate such things, however it was intended, it would be picked up by the casual reader as me having illegal ov2 files, which i do not believe anyway.
You really need to take care what you are writing, or have proof to back up what you are insinuating.

I am insinuating nothing. Proof is only needed to back up something stated as fact, whereas I said they were possibly illegal.
I have no intention of getting into an argument with you, and shall be making no further posts on the matter. _________________ Anita
