|
|
Hi Guys
A couple of days ago I brought a 2006 (06 plate) Honda Accord 2.2 Ex with Sat Nav and HFT, now I love the car however compared with my over a year old Tomtom the routing is very poor, just yesterday I drove from Harrow to Watford, with tomtoms route it usually takes me 35mins, with my satnav it took me through the Watford ring road and then the Watford Town centre and then finally to my destination, it took more then twice as long, another example with my tomtom Chelmsford to Luton followed the route you would expect, M25 then the M1, with the Accord it took me on the A1 etc, result was more miles and a longer journey time.
So the question is, is this a known bug on the 06 models or can I get an upgraded DVD which has better software and/or maps?, I do a lot of driving and am reliant on sat nav but at the moment its just causing me delays.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks for reading _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em! |

Your best bet would be to go to your local Honda dealer and ask if update DVDs are available. There are a couple of different systems in use in Hondas so they'd be the best people to ask.
If you got a part number you could then search for it online (TeleAtlas sell some direct, for instance, which could save you some money). _________________ Tim |

Thanks Tim, I will have to do that, will have to spend over £200 on the DVD though hence was hoping its a bug and get an update for free, already spent well over budget on the car!, also a bit worried the updated DVD will do the same thing, will have to talk with the dealer. _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em! |

Update your TomTom and use the inbuilt nav screen as somewhere to attach the TomTom mount to, this will save you a considerable amount of cash and provide a reliable system. I have never yet found an inbuilt nav system that can come anywhere close to the full functionality of PNA devices such as a TomTom. - Mike |

Its not all bad, for instance the TMC picks up a signal everywhere i've went, on the downside it doesnt tell you estimated delay so you cant tell if the other route will actually save you time!.
I cant use the tomtom, one of the reasons I spent extra for this model was for the Sat Nav, its great just getting in the car and going without setting up the tomtom, I'll have a word with the dealer, surely the routing must be better on a up to date DVD. _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em! |

Just a thought, but is it set to quickest route and doesn't have 'avoid motorways' switched on (assuming it has those options)? |

yep set to quickest route and I could not see a avoid motorways option, it has taken me thru motorways as well though so it cant be that. _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em! |

It would seem to be an Alpine derivative of which I have no experience.
I have searched Google and HERE - you may want to search that forum.
No-one is complaining about routing so it must be something else.
Is there any option to select preferred road speeds? has the previous owner set minor roads higher than major roads. Is the TMC diverting you silently? These are a total stab in the dark.
Can you restore to factory settings? I read a bit in the search somewhere about forcing a reload of the current firmware.
Can you give all relative details so others can help? System make, model, software version in fact anything on the info screen. Perhaps a .pdf manual could be found.
Read the forum carefully, there are several different firmwares and not all apply to the Accord '06. |

I have an 07 accord. If you post the start and end co-ords and your routing options (fastest?) , I'll see what route mine takes. |

yep i've worked my way through all the sat nav options, to be honest there isnt much you can do to configure it, I searched thru civicinfo site for routing and I Found quite a few results such as http://www.civinfo.com/forum/electronics/10973-i-give-up.html , so it looks like maybe the honda navigation routing is not up to scratch after all, I was going to try modifying the speeds set for motorways etc but from the civicinfo post it looks like it wont make a difference.
Thanks M8TJT, Appreciate the help!
Can you try CM1 3EX to LU4 9BL, when I did that route on mine it totally avoided the M1, I came thru hitchin, I always select fastest route. _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em! |

I was not able to simulate your exact journey. I live in Bexhill near Hastings. If I set the destination to LU4 9BL it takes me to the M25, under the tunnel and on round the M25 to the M1. Up the M1 to Luton.
The only way I can make it NOT use the M1 is to set the 'Minimise Motorway' option which takes me through central London and up the A4146 to in the direction of Luton.
Having said that, I don't like the routing, as I get some pretty awful routes as well. I just use mine when I really don't know where I'm going and havn't got my MIO with me. Otherwise I just have it set to 200yd and use it as a reference 'because it's there'.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks a lot for that, I appreciate it
I have just got the updated DVD today, V3.23 so I will see how I get on with that, trying to get there it now shows M1 then M25 which is good, if its the same on the way back it means they've improved it.
re minimise motorways, I did not even see that option, maybe mine was too old.
Thanks again guys, do appreciate your help _________________ They dont like it up em sir, They do not like it up em! |

I have a 2007 Honda Civic with built in Alpine SatNav
The original 3.05 DVD is as you describe, absolutely hopeless for routing in some circumstances. I have upgraded to the latest 3.23 DVD and it is better but not as good as TT for routing.
I would look on Ebay before using Honda as £200+ is a bit steep IMO. My 3.23 cost £16 and works perfectly OK from DVD+R.
Ensure that any DVD you buy is correct for your model of SatNav _________________ DashCam:
