Canada based Intrinsyc Software International have announced they have agreed an asset purchase deal which will result in their acquiring the balance of assets in Destinator Technologies. The complicated deal involves Destinator China and Israel. Other offices in the US, Canada, Taiwan and Germany are not part of the deal.
The GPS Satellite Navigation market has become increasingly cuthroat of late with diminishing margins and price slashing by retailers causing financial headaches for all those involved. The smaller manufacturers and developers are finding it increasingly difficult to survive in the market place and whilst Destinator has a strong software product line it lacks any hardware manufacturing ability. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I don't understand what you mean? Our speed camera service covers Destinator though? _________________ Darren Griffin |

i think you are right about destinator. it hasn't evolved at all and the fact that it has bunkrupt means a lot about this product. among so other navigation software i think this is the worst one... |

Does this meand the end of Destinator - it seems like they made one last desperate gasp for air with the release of D7, but then confirmed their own destiny by rushing the developement and releasing software which was not properly tested and had serious design / implementation flaws. Hats off to getting TTS to work (of sorts). I am sure if they had the backing to develop the product properly they could have turned it around. Marketing was poor, support was a joke, and i think senior management must have been in a cloud.
However the software was actually quite good, certainly up to the patched releases of D6 a definate contender for the serious GPS user accross multi platforms. But now what - do we get a chance of a proper proffessional D8 release or are the resources to be channelled into mobile phone development.
What should I buy instead - IGO8 seems the next best. Although that is a bit quirky by all accounts but at lease the developers have the support and backing of the management to keep refining and improving.
BTW im still using D6 as I cannot waste time with D7 having bought it as soon as it was released. I dont want to make the same mistake with IGO8.
Any helpful suggestions? I run it on an Asus MyPal A636 (not N) which i think maybe memory lacking - can i upgrade the flash ROM? |
