I've been reading this thread with interest and although I'm not really sure what it's about I've concluded that control is indeed remote. Confused

It works on any model that has Bluetooth. I tested it on a GO500 - no problem.

Hi - the reason I ask is to check the intentions of TomTom. I know that my One has Bluetooth - it mates with my mobile and fetches UK travelnews from Tomtom's server.

What I don't know if Tomtom have put into the software any code to limit or prevent the use of the remote on certain models. If it were my design, I'd make sure that each individual piece of TT hardware has both a model number (eg., "One" V2 etc) and a unique serial number. Then the software could ask "do I support this feature on this model?"

So, what I would like to know, is have TT said that the remote is intended to work for all TT models? Their website didn't offer me the remote for my One yesterday.

And, I'd like someone who has a One and access to a remote to try it out and report back. If they do, could they also state which build of the TT software they are running?

8,010 build 9369 or whatever the latest is, I tried it last night and again just now and the One XL doesn't want to play at all, remote is fine with the 720 and 930 - Mike

Yes it works, there is no problem with the phone connected, you can even employ the bluetooth audio output to feed the car deck via A2DP and using the remote control with the x20 or x30 units - Mike

I use my TV remote control so that I can be a couch potato whilst sitting about 12 feet from my 50" plasma. I really cannot see the point of a remote control for a 4 1/2 inch satnav unless it is positioned so far away that you need a pair of binoculars to use it. Confused

So you look at the remote to make sure that you are pressing the right button, then look at the satnav to find out if you have pressed the button, then correct your error, then there's a big bang as you drive into the back of the vehicle that has, for no apparent reason, stopped at the red traffic light in front of you whilst you were busy doing the above and using your handsfree phone. Great safety feature? Or what?. Sad

Perhaps someone will point out to me the real advantages of poking around at a remote control with a delay on it over poking around with the satnav itself. As for a 'safety' feature, you should not really be poking around with either your remote control or satnav when you are driving anyway. Of course, I never do this Supreme Angel

PS. Perhaps someone will design me a remote display fror my wristwatch Very Happy

You raise the right points but give the wrong answers.

- a lot of cars have heavily inclined windshields where the device would be too far out to be safely reached by the driver without leaning over

- the remote is constructed in a way that at no time do you have to look at it. You can very easily feel your way around the buttons, and keep your eyes on that truck in front of you.

I've only had my 930 a few days but I've used it a lot in that time - testing - and I think the remote is really great. I've never actually touched the screen when using the unit in the car - the remote seems much easier and more intuitive to me.
