Thought I would report that my long-running repair saga seems to have finally come to an end. It took the action of a director of the company and two ladies to get the matter sorted but yesterday I received a completely new TT Go 930 Traffic direct from Holland. I have also received emails and calls of apology and a pledge that no one should ever have to endure what I experienced. They promise changes in the customer support procedures.
In the box is the new device, a remote control, home dock, car charger, traffic receiver, slimline documentation and a CD with a fuller manual and extra voices such as Simon. I have backed the device up using Home, updated everything TT Home told me to, and added the GPS camera database. All without a problem.
Now, it's nose in the book to figure out how to turn off their UK camera and what all this traffic stuff is. There is a subscription service (79euros) for Traffic Information and something called the Traffic Message Channel.
The remote control is quite amusing once you manage to actually get the back off. I suspect some finger nails will be damaged in the process.
I will also see if the voice commands understand a Cockney accent!
Mike
The Dell Axim X50 is still on the shelf, just in case |

Don't rely on the Home back up; it's less than reliable, and each back up overwrites the previous one.
Follow link #1 on the FAQs Page for instructions on backing up using Windows Explorer.
Pleased to hear you achieved a satisfactory conclusion from TomTom. _________________ Anita

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was aware of people's thoughts regarding TT Home, but given the historic amount of grief I had endured I wanted to make sure that everything worked as specified. Obviously I will drag and drop the whole contents on to a DVD asap.
I can now report that the good old OGG files worked when I remembered to install them so Andy's voice is like a welcome old friend, saves a lot of typing for clear messages, (default is 300 yards), the tuning of the device to the car radio works and the weird RDS-TMC seemed to work when attached but I have not yet subscribed (ie paid money!) and I have not got a clue whether the Traffic Message Channel works. However, the sucker fell off the windscreen twice.
I will track down the reviews that people have submitted and do my homework. Only hope fuel remains at a price we can still just afford to use the car! Perhaps they should merge with Transport for London and have an "On bus" setting |

Mike, There are no subscription charges for the RDS-TMC as the license required is included in the purchase price of the device, just plug it in and use it - Mike |

For you lucky Brits, that is true. For us 'colonists' in North america, only the 1st year is included with purchase. |
