|
|
Are you one of the unlucky people who have had their GPS device stolen? If so you are one of a growing number of SatNav users who are being targeted by the modern day thief.
There are some simple precautions that you can take to prevent your navigation system from being taken, like never leaving it on view whilst in a petrol station, and never leaving it in the car when you are parked, but that doesn’t help get a stolen receiver back. And here is the strange thing. Police stations up and down the country have hundreds of recovered devices that they cannot return to their rightful owners as they have no means of tracing them.
PocketGPSWorld.com are launching an initiative with Police forces across the country to create a National Register of stolen GPS receivers which the crime investigators can use to identify the owners of recovered devices. To start this off if you have had a GPS device stolen and you have retained the unit details then post into this forum thread. We need to know the following:
Manufacturer
Model
Serial Number
Any identifying marks
If you do not have the serial number then it will be very difficult to trace your equipment.
For your privacy: Please do not post your address or any other personally identifying information.
Please only use this thread to post the above information. Any posts not conforming to this format will be removed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Any identifying marks - I had an invisible protective shield applied on the screen. While I was applying the protective shield, a small strand of hair got stuck and is visible when the unit is off. If someone tried to remove the shield, then it might have left a mark in the corners coz the shield is not that easy to remove.
Stolen between Thurs night, July 24th and 10am Friday, July 25, 2008 while parked in the middle of an open parking lot. The dashboard stand/windshield mount was also stolen along with the car charger, leather case and quick startup guide. |
