The RDS-TMC does work when using version 8 software on any of the devices that support it, there are still the same problems with patchy reception in some areas etc - but at least the delay information is present and therefore the device can calculate to avoid hold ups - Mike |

Thanks for the all the advice, I finally made a decision to go for the 930 and ordered it this morning from the BT shop (the places with cheaper deals had no stock). Really looking forward to getting it. |

The 930 arrived today and so far I'm absolutely delighted! I'd only seen 730s in the shops and I thought they looked good but the 930 is something else again. A gadgeteer's delight. Everything about it seems top class.
TT Home installed no bother and following advice here about the email address I was up and running with a new account in no time at all. I couldn't believe how strong the satellite signal was inside my house and I've really enjoyed browsing the maps and using "prepare route" to test the gubbins. I had to use some advice from a different thread to get post codes working but other than that it seems brilliant.
I know the acid test arrives when I hit the roads for real but on first impressions I'd give it 11 out of 10. |

If the 930 has the 30 day latest map guarantee I would suggest you hang on a little while as the old maps are being sold at a reduced price and that usually means a new release is imminent.
Edit
(from reading the posts on here it seems the discounted maps will run until the end of July so any new release will be outside the 30 day period)
But it is important to do it within the 30 day period
Hope you enjoy your new sat nav and as Anita has stressed do not depend on Tomtom home for your back up !! do it in explorer and make sure you disconnect your device by using the correct procedure as on the older models it has been known to corrupt the software |

Hi all, been a PGSW subscriber for years but never really looked in the forums. What a mistake that has been, I know better now!
Well, ive had my 930 for just over a week now and all I can say is "what a nightmare"!! That was until I found you guys.. TT Support is the absolute pits!
So, after much trouble and TT Support causing the loss of my maps, etc, I am fully up, working and customising with icons, startups, et, al!!
So here's my "gripe" and hopefully others will understand!
When tomtom support got me to "copy these folders to your computer" and told me "not to worry about the others", and then FORMAT the unit, they didn't say it would lose the original MAPS!
So after argueing that I did EXACTLY as instructed I was told I had 2 choices. Either send it to them to get "repaired" which would take 3 to 4 weeks at least OR They could "offer" to use the LMG and add the latest V8 maps to my account!
Seeing as I knew it was ONLY a software problem and didnt need an actual "repair" I foolishly agreed and they gladly put the Western_And_Central_Europe AND North_America maps against my account.
So, I commenced downloading to find that I can no longer have both Europe AND US maps on the device as the "latest" maps are a bigger file size! So had to download one, save to PC/delete from TOMTOM then download the Other. Nightmare!
So after spending £320 on this supposed "top of the range" unit I am finding myself having to buy a "G or larger SD card JUST to get the unit back to square one!
I have since downloaded said maps and everything "appears" ok! I have notice a few comments about people being told the LMG is only for the region the unit was sold from, i.e. Only Europe for Europe, no LMG for USA which stinks seeing as theres nothing about this in any documentation.
Which brings me to my next "gripe"! Tomtoms webpage, the box AND literature states the unit comes with EUROPE, USA & CANADA.
When I confronted TOMTOM customer services;
They claimed the Western_&_Central_Europe map download cover eastern europe too. They Don't!
They claimed the North_America map download covered Most of the USA and Canada. They Don't!
I questioned why the website and literature stated "EUROPE" maps and does not say "Western & Central Europe" maps and that I should therefore be given EASTERN_EUROPE maps as well and was told that was a "mistake" on their website, packaging AND documentation
I questioned why it stated "USA & Canada" maps and does not say "North America" maps and that I should therefore be given the Whole of the USA AND CANADA maps as well and was again told that was a "mistake" on their website, packaging AND documentation.
I am still following up on this and will persist to put pressure on tomtom.
I'd like to know if anyone else has had similar experiences and the outcome, positive or negative?
Cheers |

Thanks for pressing on with your complaints with TomTom.
In my opinion, they still make by far the best SatNav hardware, but EVERYTHING else about the company is a disaster.
Their marketing department especially, tends to exaggerate, overstate or leave things much too vague, and we shouldn't let them get away with it! |

Spot on! I've been using their software for years and enjoy using it. I've used others but they just dont "feel" the same!
Which, like you say, make all the other bits highly annoying!
Perseverence is a virtue, so I hear! |
