 Since I first saw iGO MyWay 8 in action at CeBIT back in March 2007 I, along with countless others, have been keen to get my hands on the finished product! Already available on numerous devices (MyGuide, Sony PSP's Go!Explore and OnCourse Navigator as well as some smaller companies' devices) the OEM product for PDAs was finally launched at CeBIT in March this year. Sporting impressive 3D landscapes and detailed buildings this is certainly a nice looking piece of software. But, is it all just eye candy? Does it actually add anything to the navigational aid? Is the underlying software actually any good?! Read on to find out more…

Looking at the screen shots there's a lot of similarity to iGO 2006+, so I would assume they'd carry it over to 8.
I'm in half a mind whether to upgrade or not. Can't see much point of 3D buildings but 3D terrain sems good.
£120 for E and W Europe when all I need is UK and France.
2008 maps though.
Shall I, shant I? Maybe wait a couple of months to see what others have to say.
Decisions, decisions.

€80 is about £60? i'd contact nav n go and see if they have finalised any upgrade details yet.
i'd have to agree on the buildings - the landmarks could be handy but general buildings i wasn't fully decided on... living in the hills in bradford the 3d terrain is great - it's hard to get the full picture just from a screen shot as you notice subtle differences in the hills etc as you drive.
don't forget though that you can turn buildings off in the 3d settings anyway.

Thanks for that it's very useful.
A few questions:
- does the software allow itineraries to be built up?
- does it allow/handle roadblocks?
- how often do navngo update the maps? What's their charging policy for new maps?

Answers: Yes, Yes (both better than any software I have seen). My understanding is there will be free updates every 6 months or so, with the option to buy the next year's map data too.
Another great feature is 'detour' to allow you find POIs along a route (the way this is displayed is quite cool to give you a view on how far off your route the POI is), POIs from current GPS position etc. These can be saved from a search so you can define your own detours, e.g. find me the Little Chef's on my route.

Bah, IMHO the whole "3d building" thing is a gimmick and nothing more. If they HAD invested in a robust, optimized TTS system (which IS crucial, unlike 3d "eye-candy") I would ditch TTN for it in a blink of an eye.
Now, I just have to keep on waiting for a proper, PPC solution, with TTS! |

So was I, and changing my PDA/phone too - I have a IPAQ 6910. I was thinking of the new HTC Diamond but as that has no expansion slot IGO8 is a not starter.
Can it really only be installed & run from the card? |

There is a solution for the HTC diamond with iGO8 that has a special version of the software that is not tied to an SD card. As to availability, don't know that yet.

Driving through London last week, the building stuff is quite useful when you have lots of small roads near a turning for quickly working out which road to turn down (when you have a junction that isn't a simple cross-roads).
As to TTS - I think iGO8 will get it on the PDA eventually - sooner rather than later. It is already there on the PND devices... The issue is a technical one that I am sure will be overcome. Unlike virtually all of the other software vendors in the arena at the moment, NavNGo are innovating and adding features in each new service release of their product. Compare that with the woeful experience of Destinator or Tomtom...

I have tried the demo version of I-Go 8 and I have come against another problem. as well as the time zone problem.
When the program is installed, all was well, but now, the backlight turns its self off after a few seconds and no matter what settings I adjust it makes no difference, I can not get the backlight to stay on. |

something i just realised i forgot to mention in the review...
if there are a couple of roads in close proximity to a turn you will be told to "take the 2nd left" or "take the 3rd right" etc...
i'll go and add it!!
