Dell Axim X5 and BT CF upgrade

I have a Axim X5 with TT3. I am interested in the new traffic feature, and thought that I would get a CF BT adaptor for the Dell. The first one came from Maplin, and only with 2002 drivers. After downloading the latest it sort of installed, but did not work. Then I Sent this back and purchased a card from Dell which is the Belkin card. This completly froze up the machine, wiped all my settings and forcing a hard reset.Dell say that the CF card is faulty, and are sending a new one, but I cannot help but think that I am going wrong somewhere.
Has anyone got any experience with this and where am i going wrong?

Unfortunately products that add Bluetooth to a non-Bluetooth Pocket PC always seems to be difficult to get working reliably. A lot of the Bluetooth CompactFlash cards don't have Pocket PC 2003 drivers, which it sounds as if you need - so be wary if you try to hunt down other alternatives.

If you do finish up with a solution you're happy with on your Axim, do post again so that we have some idea what to suggest to others.

Having done alot of research on the Internet, I have got my X5 to work with the BT CF card that Dell said was broken!

This link explains how to get all BT cards working on the X5, and the shear fact that Dell are chosing not to fix this well documented problem.

The fix even for a thicko like me was easy, but did need a hard reset, so make sure you have backed up the data first!

You need the com1 drivers (third party) and a registry editor

1. Install the tascal registry editor

2. install the com1 drivers

3. Select all the text between but not including; start copy to end copy below, then copy and paste it into notepad on you PC. Go file, save as bluetooth.reg. You need to copy it to your AXIM using explorer. You'll see your Axim in MyComputer as a folder called MobileDevice. It does have to be cradled for this....

4. Import the .reg file using the tascal registry editor - this should change all the relevant settings. To do this run Tascal regedit, go File, Import registry. It defaults to search all folders so it will find the .reg file if it's there.

5. Soft Reset the AXIM - everything should work. BTW - you do this by pressing the stylus into the reset pin located below the twiddley swith on the right side of the AXIM.
