XDA Upgrade

I have an O2 XDA EXEC which runs Windows 5. It is getting old and slow (bit like me )
I have got quite a good data only airtime deal with O2 and would like to continue using that.
I use the PDA almost like a small pc, I have addresses, documents, photos etc. I can also surf the net (to a certain degree) and send and receive e.mail.
I am toying with the idea of getting an Ultra Portable Laptop or Tablet.
Is there another PDA out there that will do all this faster and at reasonable cost?
Answers on a postcard please.

Not really. Best you can do is to upgrade your Exec to Windows Mobile 6.1

Then throw in the Netfront 3.5 browser and you've got a really useful device again.

lutz, do you have a link for that? google just pulls up the information but nowhere to download?

O2 offer (or did) an upgrade for the XDA Orbit, but not as far as I know for the Exec which they now do not support.

Do HTC offer anything as far as you know?

Presumably an upgrade could be purchased (?) but is it worth it?

O2 never updated the ROM to WM6 but there are plenty of ROM's available for download from XDA Developers web site, I found the WM6 ROM on the Exec really does speed it up, it is like a different device.
Another device to have a look at is the HTC Athena, although it makes the Exec look small (it really is like carrying around a brick in your pocket but great for mobile internet with its 5'' VGA screen) - Mike

I'm not home at the moment, the XDA is being my laptop modem, so I will look into this in more detail soon.

I can't find anywhere to download Win 6.1.
I have asked O2, who told me that my XDA EXEC is not suitable for upgrading. Is this true, or do they want me to buy something else?
