|
|
Hello!
Is it ok to use a 3 meters or a 6 meters cable between TomTom wired silver and the PocketPC, or does it make some negative effects with the signal etc.?
I ask this, because I need to put the GPS receiver to the rear window of my car, and I'll get a factory made cable with the lenght of 3 or 6 meters.

There'll be no effects on reception if you use an extension cable - the GPS radio signals are decoded in the little silver GPS device. I wouldn't think adding a few extra metres of cable will disrupt the serial port connection (especially as it's usually at a very pedestrian 4800bps) or cause excessive voltage drop on the power wires.
Do, however, check that the extension cable you use is wired straight through. At least one person accidentally fitted a crossover one, destroying his GPS in the process.
